. Nightclub or Restaurant? I want to hear the person across me

I really enjoy Greek food but unfortunately, this was a flop for me. Dont expect large portion sizes, rather bite-size tapas experience with a modern twist. I did not consider it modern rather lacklustre small portions of food. I felt it was trying to convince diners the venue is hip so the food must be modern and good.
The Zucchini fritters and eggplant croquettes would have loved some seasoning. Very bland but both had a good crunch. The Chargrilled octopus was dry and I was surprised to see one small tentacle sliced paper thin. The stuffed tomatoes and a Greek-style San Choy Bow has the same stuffing. If I was aware I would not haveordered both. The eggplant with slow roasted beef shoulder and saganaki was good but not enough to convince me to come back.
We had booth style seating and the decor is lovely but the noise is deafening. Coming back home with soar vocal nodules only means one thing, Overuse. The service was friendly and I loved the bar. Great place to be on a crap first date, no need to talk just have a cocktail and admire the crowd.

Trendy new restaurant on chapel street with tasty food and cool vibe. Between two we shared the eggplant croquettes, the saganaki, the octopus, the lamb skewers which came with pita and dips and the broccoli with feta. I really enjoyed all of the dishes but the saganaki was a definite favourite. My only comment is that the croquettes were unusually tiny. Still nice though.

The new ‘Rebel’ is in town… Rebel Blue causing controversy on Chapel Street. A great well needed addition to Chapel Street. A funky Greek place like this was definelty missing and now its here. Offering a great array of cocktails and drinks and a very tradtional menu with some great dishes. A special mention to the Saganaki Don’t need to go to Oakleigh now you have an option on Chapel Street

It was a crazy 40+ degree Friday when we ate at Rebel Blue so made sense we start with some cocktails. The menu read very well in that department so we ordered a couple while we admired the fitout with blue neon and all those blue pipes going somewhere (or nowhere I later discovered). I ordered the Greek gin and WOW it was served with pepper and rosemary and cucumber, what a winning combo.

Kellie had the Mimi The Fuzz cocktail which was a watermelon, gin and aperol mix, this sweet drink had a with a hint of Turkish rose but was not too sweet, really delightful to sit and sip.

We ordered quite a few little dishes to try, started with some Olives, these little beauties where served warm and had been marinated in Greek herbs.

We had the stuffed tomatoes with wild rice, pine nuts and yoghurt. These little parcels had a great roast tomato flavour and a lovely texture when you bite into the pine nuts.

The Eggplant with slow roasted beef shoulder, was just like eating individual baby moussaka bites. Wonderful

Chargrilled octopus with a yellow split pea fava had a great herbed flavour, the grilling bought a beautiful crunch to the outside, it was kept fresh with the fresh squeeze of lemon, and was melt in your mouth tender.

Saganaki with lemon was served in a sizzling pan, this dish was simply perfection from the flavour to the squeaky texture, just so damn good. They had other varieties of saganaki on the menu but I always go for the classic.

We had a half serve of Lamb skewers and and half of chicken for our main along with dips, breads and an fairly impressive salad.

The chicken skewers were the most tender and juicy but the lamb won me over with its flavour. We tried the tzatziki and spicy capsicum dips but Kellie was most impressed with the taramasalata claiming it was the best she have ever eaten…simply drool worthy.

The Rainbow Tomato Greek salad, was a great mix of colour and super fresh ingredients with a great crunch and zingy dressing, the non salad fan at the table was even won over and went in for seconds!

We had intended to try a dessert of two but were beyond full despite halving some of our dishes… will have to try some next time for sure.

Not only was Rebel Blue our first invitation for 2019 but we were genuinely amazed by the fitout, quality food and friendly informed waiting staff.

Had a dinner the other night with friends after chancing upon their food on insta. Overall food was simple and delicious. My favourite dish was the chicken skewer: moist tender and grilled to perfection. The grilled lamb should be given a special mention too! For a feed of three, we had over 5 different dishes which was satisfying. For that I give a 3.5 rating.

Guess what that night we bumped into Masterchef judge Gary Mehigan.. who knows you might meet next to your dinner table.
