I was delighted to be invited to Shukah tonight having visited all of their other restaurants (Sezar, Black Toro) with this being billed as the casual cousin of the aforementioned Sezar. A lovely relaxed modern atmosphere and super friendly staff who knew regulars by name and preferred order.

I was waiting for my tardy husband and sipped the cheesecake cocktail which was delicious and far too easy to drink. When he eventually joined me he opted for a spiced espresso martini and I partook in a Persian cup which was their version of a pimms. I personally prefer the original but its orange blossom scent was delightful.

We engaged in the feed me menu which began with some hummus and some of the most amazing flatbread Ive had. This was dukah spiced and I pretty much didnt even need the creamy chickpea dip so good was the flavoursome deliciously soft bread. We then had the feta and freekah fritters and the harissa beef borek. We were split on this one I loved the borek and hubby the fritters.

On to small plates with roasted beets, prawn felafel and roasted lamb manti. The felafel was served with some more yummy bread bao style which was cool to see but my favourite was the manti. This was an interesting modern twist on a classic middle eastern dish. Our main was the roasted half chook. I loved the buckwheat with this and the persimmon amba which was kind of like a sweet chutney.

The baklava sundae intrigued on the dessert menu but we were given the chocolate cremaux with burnt orange and honeycomb served with a sumac sorbet and this was perfection! The refreshing little sorbet was ingeniously paired with the rich and indulgent chocolate flavours. And what an inspired use of a savoury spice! We definitely ended on a high note!

Hand-down, one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Melbourne. Ordered the banquet at our lovely waitresses suggestion, with dishes brought out to share between my parter and I (vegetarian friendly for me). By the time the third course came around, I was already getting full, but the food just kept coming. Trust me, you’re gonna want to be hungry when you visit Shukah, because each dish is better than the next. For starters, I sampled some veggie dishes including betroot with puffed grains on a bed of yoghurt and carrots with a pesto of sorts. Fluffy pita and the best hummus I’ve ever tried also graced the table, alongside fried oysters, mini falafel wraps (typically prawn, but ask about veg-friendly options) and sashimi (same goes- they did mine with tofu). One of the most memorable and decadent dishes was a sizzling hot plate of bubbly cheese, served with bread. So rich and so good. For a main, I was served eggplant with falafel and my partner got a beef shortrib. Dessert was definitely off the cards, but we gladly ordered another round of Armenian beer and sparkling wine. I can’t wait to go back and try the sweets at Shukah. With savoury fare this food, their dessert must be amazing- especially that Baklava Sundae I’ve heard all about. Really looking forward to my next visit!

First time experiencing Armenian food and it was a good one! The staff ( explain all the food and how to order) and friendly, service is quick and the food is delicious! We tried:
Babaganoush: great flavour, they add a spicy oil which is yum and the lavash is the perfect accompaniment.
BBQ carrot: loved the charred sweet carrots and the crunchy pesto!
Octopus: so tender, cooked to perfection! The dish was full of texture and the flavours were so well balanced! must try.
Lamb Manti: the dumpling are yum but I found the dish to be slightly salty.. but it could be just me!
Pork Hock: the date sauce… so good I can bathe in it! The tangy crunchy apple pairs well with the dish. A must try!
Lamb shoulder: best lamb shoulder over rated at a restaurant. The meat just pulled apart and was FULL of flavour.
Tip: make a reservation! They are busy!

I am a lover of all things Middle-Eastern/cumin-spiced/eggplant/hummus and hence see myself as a connoisseur of the cuisine – making my standards for flavour and the ‘WOW’ factor pretty high. When I dined at Shukah this past Saturday night I didn’t expect that I would be so impressed and blown away by the flavours, textures and delicious food – it was perfection.

We were quickly greeted and sat at our table for 2 close to the window and perused the menu. There were so many things I wanted to try and order so whilst making up our minds, we ordered some wine and hummus to pick at. This is a MUST ORDER. It was amazing and the best hummus I have ever had – silky smooth, with some whole chickpeas in the centre with burnt butter to lap up in the flat bread. I knew from this simple dish that the tone of the evening had been set.

We decided to not go overboard with food and ordered the pomegranate glazed lamb shoulder with the bbq carrots (+ pesto/goats curd/pine nuts) which I have often seen recommended by fellow reviewers, and the roasted cauliflower with yoghurt. Once the food came I knew that we had made the right decision as the lamb would have easily fed 3-4 people (with sides) and fed 2 to the brim as we were both so full and satisfied by the end of our meal. The carrots were delicious and so too was the cauliflower.

Overall I was so impressed with Shukah that I am looking forward to coming back again soon to try the other dishes. Service was attentive, friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great – not overly loud and perfect for intimate dates near the front or larger groups towards the back.

This restaurant could not get any better. From the exceptional glasses of ($6!) bubbles my friend and I enjoyed throughout our entire lunch to the flawless and friendly service, this place and its sibling Sezar are surely some of the best places to dine in Melbourne. The $35pp tasting menu looked incredible, and our waitress was only too happy to accommodate dietaries. We started with the lavosh bread and hummus which is, hands down, legitimately the BEST in town. It’s buttery, oily, salty and incredible. Loved every bite. The croquettes were divine, and the green sauce (can’t remember what it was) had a delicious little kick to it. The beetroot salad was excellent, and the falafel bites and grilled carrot at the end rounded off what were utterly ecstatic flavours. We were too full for dessert, but cannot wait for our next visit. Cannot recommend enough.

Went there for a Saturday lunch with my family! The waitress was really friendly and offered us the lunch tasting special ($35pp for 4-5 dishes to share). It was amazing! Love love love the unique flavours of the dips, dressing, and food! For the price point, it was definitely worth it! Everything was delicious and well-presented.
We left wanting to come back next time.
    Definitely worth checking out!

Food was fresh and tasty. My favourite was the hommus and bread. The hommus had a silky texture and well balanced flavour. Pork hock was a bit too sweet for my taste but still good. Very friendly customer service. But it took a very very long time to wait for the food…the staffs did apologise so hopefully will be better next time.
