We called in expecting to enjoy lovely coffee and patisseries. The coffees were terrible, like watery instant coffee while the croissants were stale and tasteless. To call this a French bakery is an insult to France and the French. There is absolutely nothing French about it and having lived in France I do know.!A rating of 1 is too high with the quality so poor.
You can find Fre-Jac at various farmer’s markets in the south west region, but if you’re willing to venture a little way out of Busselton into a semi industrial area of the Vasse township, down a driveway sandwiched between a printing business and a yoga studio you’ll find their kitsch little shop front. Â They make a range of simple pastries, breads and an extremely good almond croissant. Â The French woman serving is just delightful.
Overpriced and not so good.. We recently bought different breads from them in a market. Not only was the price way too high, but the breads were tasteless and dry the next day. Come down your horses Mr Baker and don’t just overcharge under the pretence that French bread is better, because it is not!
Excellent Baguette. After hunting high and low for a decent French Stick/Baguette in the ‘capes area without success, we stumbled upon a pamphlet for this bakery. Don’t let the location put you off (what seems to be a light industrial area in Vasse, entry from the side of a new block of business units) – the baguette we purchased today was perhaps the best I have experienced in Western Australia, and I have tried quite a few after becoming addicted to them when in Paris. The baguette we purchased was so similar to true French baguettes I wonder if they import par-cooked baguettes as I know some other places in WA do. Either way the result is excellent. The snail patisserie was also excellent. If you are in the area and want a traditional baguette don’t settle for the poor imitations at the more popular bakeries in town – pick one up from here on your way past from the wineries.
