Family members had raved about this place for some time before we had a chance to investigate it ourselves even my Father-in-law, normally a fairly finicky eater (if a binary like it or don’t like it palette should be considered) was most enthusiastic. However, my wife and I having multiple food allergies were hesitant to investigate. The night we visited was surprisingly quiet for a time we were the only other table in the restaurant. The staff were prone to hovering at first, wanting to take our orders even though we had told them that we were waiting for more people to turn up. Even before our entre had arrived, they were pressing us to choose our main dish – yet when the last of our party arrived, we were unable to get anyone’s attention. Once ordered, the dishes took some time to arrive one hopes that they were freshly prepared given the time taken. Although all dishes were ordered at the same time, there was about a 15 minute gap between the first plate arriving and the last some of our group had already finished before others had started. The quality of the meals themselves were perfectly good, no one at our table had cause for complaint, and serving sizes were generous we were able to take home two containers of leftovers. My own order of potato gnocchi served as lunch the following day as well.Glancing over the other reviews for this restaurant suggests that diners have all had similar experiences all seem to have found the food enjoyable but have been frustrated by the service staff, finding them pushy and unprofessional. If the restaurant can take the time to train their front of house staff to the same level as their kitchen staff, they will have a promising future.

Just sat just sat down to a Big breakfast and it is BIG! Plenty of bacon, a hash brown, 2 X half tomatoes, baked beans, sausage, mushrooms, 3 pieces of toast and 2 eggs. Look it is so much better than anywhere else I’ve been and the service was quick and coffee good too, I highly recommend this place

This place was awful in previous incarnations but as an Italian cafe, I must say that they are doing something right. Their tomato based sauces are very tasty… Puts Pastacup down the road to shame. The owners are trying very hard to please but haven’t got it completely right. I can’t imagine that their chairs are comfortable for anyone’s posterior and the music is generally too loud. Stick to the pasta too; partners fish was very over cooked one time and her Caesar salad another time was a bit lacking. Overall though, it is a better choice for locals than Dome or Cornerstone.

On the pricey side… Breakfast deal : grilled bacon and eggs with a free coffee.Apparently eggs have to be fried as you get charged $2 more per breakfast (which we can slightly understand) but then have to pay for coffee separately? So breakfast ended up costing twice as much as we thought (although tasted good) and was also overcharged by $6.50?Receipts offer no breakdown either :-((Glass of water was ignored when asked too)

The Best Value in northern suburbs. My wife & i have been here a few times now. Because, the food is always top quality ( & quantity ), Carlo is very welcoming and service is first class, pricing is very good, ambiance is very nice. Good wine list too, or BYO wine. We consider it fine dining on a working mans budget. Couldn’t ask for better value for money. We reckon we’re pretty lucky to have a good restaurant like this so close to home in the northern suburbs.

The Best. Spread the word… Caf de Carlo is the best caf/bistro NOR. Amazing authentic Italian food on our doorstep. If you haven’t tried this place I highly recommend you do. Good friendly service, great weekly specials and prices are so reasonable. Visited several times and we always receive a great meal with a smile and welcome from the staff or Carlo himself.
