We had the Groper special fish of the day with leek sauce and a risotto. Was absolutely delicious and was a very large serving and glad I was sharing.Coffee was very good as well.Service was slightly slow but everything else outweighed that!

If the regular menu is anywhere near as lovely as the degustation we enjoyed on New Year’s Eve, then Lavender Cottage is a must if you visit Albany. It’s a pretty little cafe housed in an old terrace just off the main shopping strip in Albany. I was stunned at what was produced from such a tiny kitchen. Â Dinner started with a tasting plate of appetisers that included a gazpacho with prawn, salmon ceviche, crab on black bread and foie gras on brioche with roasted pear – lovely simple flavours and beautifully presented. Â A rich scallop soup followed (topped with two huge, just seared scallops), rabbit ravioli with a mushroom jus (the best dish of the night for me) a lime and mango sorbet, a roasted lobster tail with cauli mash and laksa sauce, beef fillet and crepe suzette for dessert. Â All extremely generous serves and just delicious. Â I did not bother to take photos but wish I had.The husband and wife hosts are lovely and the service was professional. Â I can’t comment on the regular menu but this has to be an indication of what it’s like – and I’ll definitely give it a try next time I’m in town.
