Loved this quaint historic pub in Albany. Old style pub with open fireplace and decor. Unfortunately on this particular day a lot of food was not available on the menu for one reason or another. The waitress was very apologetic and pointed out a few dishes to try. Chicken parmy was really good and very big. Nachos were very tasty too. Tried the Apple pie and cookies and cream cheesecake. I would definitely recommend trying this place.
Based on trip advisor recommendations my friend and I visited for dinner this evening. I ordered the ribs (DONT DO IT) and my friend ordered the ‘special’, the Pork Belly. This was without a doubt the worst meal I’ve ever been served in Australia. The ribs were apparently ‘marinated’ in bbq sauce – well marinading doesn’t mean half a litre of used engine oil appearance sauce being poured in top of the ribs AFTER you’ve supposedly ‘cooked’ said item. My friends pork belly was stone cold. There was next to zero pork on the ribs, full of small bones. I spent the first 10 mins of this dining event with fingers in my mouth trying to not subject myself to an involuntary Heimlich manuevre from a fellow diner should I have swallowed this D grade serving. After informing the waitress of our terrible experience mid way through the meal she said she would inform the bearded manager. Well lo and behold he never made an appearance to enquire further and at the end of the night upon incredibly reluctantly paying the bill was told ‘well if you ate it surely it must have been ok’. Yeah ok it’s my job to do your job of customer service right? Seriously, I said to the waitress and again to the bar girl the only reason we ate what was in front of us was: 1. We were damn hungry and would have eaten cardboard and 2. We didn’t come out together for dinner to eat separately and after another half hour waiting for ‘new and improved’ meals. Not that it was EVER OFFERED. You guys obviously have enjoyed the good fortune of being able to provide substandard food and substandard service based on the fact you’re in a regional area. That’s a shame. A shame for Albany. My advice, go to have a look, have an $11 pint of beer. Get a packet of chips. JUST DONT EAT THE FOOD. Save your money. McDonald’s up the road is likely the better bet. Not even the Shantymen could save this night.
