Far too expensive for what you get.. Before I write this review, I want to say the service was absolutely excellent. All the people were lovely, seemed to enjoy their job and were very attentive, so this negative review has nothing to do with serviceSadly, the food was terrible: and expensive. We should have gotten an inkling of what was to come when the garlic bread came out charred to the point that some pieces were inedible. I had the beef bourguignon and was severely disappointed as I could taste the great flavours, but it was horribly salty, the meat was overcooked and dry and the hand-made pasta that came with it was very tough. My boyfriend got one of the pizzas, and despite his usual appetite he was unable to finish it.I was also not a fan of the very winding way to get to the female toilets which took you on the scenic route past the kitchen, down a hallway past the male toilets and past a dank outdoor area containing the skip bins which was open to a dark carpark. I didn’t feel comfortable, particularly as it was nighttime, because of the isolation from the rest of the restaurant and the lack of even a door to stop someone coming in from the carpark. It seems this place is a cafe/restaurant; there were a few different names for the restaurant that made that a bit ambiguous. I can’t comment on how this place is during the day, but based on my experience would definitely not recommend for dinner.

Excellent French Homestyle Cooking. It was great to finally come across a restaurant with typical french home-style meals. Our table of 5 shared various entrees such as garlic bread with grilled italian sausage, flavoursome. Duck rillette with sliced toasted baguette, also fantastic. But the tables favourite was the the duck salad, the meat came falling off the bone, cooked to perfection, delicious! We we’re full after that. But then came out mains. The 3 French at our table ordered the duck with the Didier (the owner’s) own special sauce, they highly rated it and the 2 non-french ordered the classic rich beouf bourguignon – i will go back just to eat this again. I swapped the fettuccine side dish it originally came with, for a creamy mash with ratatouille – i definitely recommend this option! For dessert out came the apple tarte tartin and chocolate crepes! We were all extremely full, but totally worth it. Reasonably priced as well & very happy with the service, they were very accommodating. 5/5 for us.

Went for a ladies night and loved it. AMazing value. We had entrees and mains, BYO wine and the bill was very pleasant! Had the duck with orange sauce, loved it. Service was fantastic too! Planning to go back.

Went for lunch. Lunch pizzas were very good and cheap, however – avoid the hamburger! It was the foulest meat I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. Had to go to the restroom to get numerous stringy bit out of my teeth, found a couple of grisly bits and the stench only came off my hands after washing them several times. It was disgusting and I didn’t finish it.

If you’re looking for cutting edge, challenging French cuisine, L’Hermitage is probably not the place for you. However, if you are looking for satisfying, delicious French and Italian food, with charming service and a fascinating dcor, this definitely is. Offering a selection of classic dishes with a few surprises thrown in, all at reasonable prices, and a delightful small bar in the corner, this is a restaurant I that will surely be visiting again.

Yummy nosh. I first visited L’ Hermitage when I won dinner vouchers in a raffle. We took our French visitors from overseas and they said it was the best food they had eaten outside of France. We have been back many times now and introduced lots of people to fabulous food. The coq au vin is delicious. The service is really friendly too.

Faux french. If you are looking for French food then this oddly named restaurant is not where you will find it. It has morphed into a very average Italian bistro with a few French dishes thrown in just to prove its origins! Food average, service very average, decor as confused as the menu which is not cheap, either. Rebranding needed pronto!
