Cute little cafe, but foodwise is just average. I had Japanese chicken curry before, chorizo & eggs was cold and bland. The juice was nice and fresh. …

Working in Claremont for the past two years, this place is one of my favorite stops for Coffee, and I have been to them all in this area. The coffee is some of the nicest in the area, and the service and people here are always lovely. It’s a great place to unwind, nestled in a cozy lane, next to a quaint book store.I particularly like the welcoming touches they have, and love the interesting books they sometimes display with a small blurb on them- the latest being a book written by a local who works in the Map and Framing store down the lane.
Really nice food and good vibe in an excellent location. The coffee was just ok, but the food more than made up for it in my opinion I had the omelet and my brother had the big breakfast, we were both very impressed. Also the cakes looked excellent, although we didn’t try one.
Tried this little cafe last Wednesday and was very pleasantly surprised. Lovely quaint whimsical interior and friendly staff. Nice all-day breakfast style menu. I chose the salt & pepper squid, sister chose the avocado smash and my father went with a sausage roll and roasted vegetable salad.Very quick to order (at the counter), though Old Theatre Lane is very quiet in general. Food came out quite quickly-S&P squid were perfectly cooked and came with a greek salad and chips, absolutely nothing to complain about- good portion and everything fresh and tasty.Avocado Smash- my sister enjoyed, no complaints.Sausage Roll & Salad- generous serving of salad, sausage roll was a very decent size, my dad was very satisfied.Coffee was excellent, on par with some of my other favourite local haunts (Yabba Dabba, Boubar etc.). The lane is super quiet which actually makes a nice change from the rest of Claremont Quarter.Overall, I would recommend giving the Lane Cafe a try, and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back again.
Quiet cafe its located opposite a bookshop. Nothing outstanding. Simple menu, and food was ok. Coffee not too bad. If you like coffee. ……book……snacks. ..coffee…..sweet. …coffee. This place is ok.
Nice little cafe in a retail lane of other little stores and shops.Quite a few customers dining in, good to be out of the hustle and bustle of the main Bayview Tce.Good coffee, nice and efficient staff, cleaning tables as they go.Plenty of tasty treats like muffins, cookies, cakes and savouries available—-2016Been back to dine at The Lane Cafe again, it’s such a good cafe! Check out the big blackboard of specials, it changes frequently with lots of choices and the food is very nice and fresh and presentation and portion size is great! Big thumbs up to the chef. Wait staff once again commendable and friendly, esp the lady who always asks if everything is ok and brings you glass of water to your table while you wait…service with a smile!
I find this cafe to be just above average. My biggest complaint is one about the staff. The manager in particular was quite rude to us. The other staff members just don’t seem to care. The food is very rustic and homey, which is rather nice. The cafe is quite dark, lighting could be improved.
I love the location of this cafe, hidden away from the bustling Claremont. However, it may get a little crowded on the weekends. The service is really slow so do expect a wait. The coffee is below average. my soy long mac was served to be 3/4 froth and 1/4/ coffee. I was upset and the waiter looked shock when I showed it to her. However, even after sending it back, I received 1/3 coffee and 2/3 froth. The barista didn’t look too happy or apologetic either when I brought it to her attention with a smile. The staff are not very friendly but I still return for this one dish: The open steak sandwich! The steak is tender and this fills me up just nice! I have craved this with my partner, which is the main reason why we always return to the Lane Cafe. I have also introduced many to the sandwich so if you’re there for the first time, order it! You can’t go wrong with this one.
