On the recommendation of the couple of friends with whom we dined, we tried Juniper and Bay for the first time tonight. And a splendid recommendation it was. The welcome was friendly to the cosy surroundings. All the service staff were courteous and amiable whilst keeping a proper sense of service. With one minor exception the food was excellent. More of that exception later. The general excellence carried even that exception and I still have to rate it as a 5. The wine list is small but good and not unreasonable. Whilst food and wine prices are not cheap the expense is merited. Bisque, terrine were gobbled down. My goats cheese brul was a great idea and good cheese. But for my taste Id personally have preferred a bit more char and warmth in my cheese to transform it a bit further from slightly tepid with a hint of BBQ to something more challenging and unctuous. But perhaps that would be too much for most. Maybe they need to offer it rare or well done, laugh! Duck, barramundi, lamb sous vide were all delicious, beautifully plated with perfectly complimenting sauces and trim. The side of beans scrummy. For finishing I should have joined wifey and had the chocolate souffl. Tiramisu looked good too. But my dessert was the one flaw of the evening: the pineapple carpaccio just didnt work for me. The flavour of the pineapple just far too strong for the accompanying sorbet. And the stringy texture was just not pleasant. But I accept that its a matter of taste and that others might like it. Id have to say if it were me, however, Id take it off the menu if thats how its supposed to be. But that was just one wee fleck of badness in so much goodness so dont let it disuade others from giving this delightful restaurant a try.
