Can’t miss with this one, the chef, quality of ingredients and friendly staff make this a very pleasant change from some of the very ‘cheffy’ over complicated and expensive cuisine popping up everywhere around Margaret River lately. If you like contemporary Japanese food go!! Apparently the French champagne available by the bottle only (sadly) is good too!
Visited this place after hearing many good things about it. We had the Spicy miso ramen (miso broth, ramen noodles topped with seaweed, bamboo shoot, corn, spring onion, enoki); Fiery Katsu (chicken, avocado, spicy mustard mayo, spicy tomato) half roll sushi; Pork Chashu (pork chashu, cucumber, kimchi, cos lettuce, sesame seeds, spring onion); Wafu salad (seasonal garden salad with traditional Japanese soy dressing with tofu); Beef Tataki (seared Margaret River Wagyu beef fillet, ponzu, onions, fried shallot) and the Donkotsu Ramen (pork broth, ramen noodles topped with pork chashu, boiled egg, seaweed, beanshoots, corn and spring onion). We were not very impressed with Ramen dishes here. The noodles were over cooked. The miso broth was not spicy and did not have the bamboo shoots. The donkotsu pork broth was very bland. These dishes were very Westernised and not very authentic. We were also disappointed that the eggs were not the soy eggs and just plain boiled eggs. The Chashu was very tough and rubbery, and too fatty. The beef tataki was average. There was no wow factor. The chashu in the sushi was non existent. The Fiery Katsu was probably the tastiest dish out of all that we ordered. The service was pretty good though. Will not be coming back for the food anytime soon.
There are many, many quality winery restaurants in the Margaret River region. Recently, we tried a winery that’s quite different to the usual south west spot. Fishbone has your classic offering of superb Margaret River wines, but here there’s a little twist – we enjoyed the wines in their sushi restaurant.
With Japanese and Korean chefs and local margaret river produce its no wonder Fishbone is the busiest restaurant outside of Margaret River. This is the best asian fusion restaurant i have been too in Perth. It brought back memories of my trip to japan and korea and the food was amazing. Huge portions. This is a must do for people going to japan.
