Great fish and chips in local area. We’ve been coming here once a fortnight for about a year now and they have been consistently good every time. Lately wait time is longer but food here is still much better than others in the area.

My partner was very excited to come across somewhere that served black pudding. I’m not generally a pudding fan, but their white pudding is decent. The prices are good – pudding and chips costs $8.50, and the Sunday and lunchtime special for fish and chips is $6.95, while there’s also burgers for around $7.95. (And $1.50 for a can of Irn Bru is the best price I’ve seen.) I noticed another review mentioning that it was cash only – there’s an eftpos machine now. It gets busy around peak times, but the staff are friendly and seem efficient. My one disappointment is that amongst the large range of sides (kiwi dogs, pineapple fritters, battered hamburger, and the like), there’s no fried mars bar.

Unedible poor quality fish!. Purchased a carry out from Candlewood for the first time tonight. I was EXTREMELY disappointed in the quality of the product and question the authenticity of the type of fish served. As a fisherman I can tell the difference between fresh and stale fish. It was NOT cheap! I ordered Dhu fish and Snapper. The grilled fish was so rubbery it couldn’t be cut. I took it back and was only offered half of what I paid. In my opinion your money would be better spent elsewhere. Will not be back .

Decent fish and chips but cash only???. We decided upon fish and chips 2 Friday’s ago as my wife was too tired to cook, and she suggested Candlewood Fish and Chips based on good reviews we had heard. I ordered the combo 3 meal which was 4 pieces of Hake, 4 dimsims, 2 crabsticks and 3 scoops of chips for $45.00 which is not bad value. I opted to add a Kiwi hot dog to the order which bought the total to just under $50.00, not bad to feed a family of 3 adults and 2 kids. After we got home and unwrapped it all I found 3 crabsticks and about 7 pieces of fish which was a bit of a surprise. There were heaps of chips, fish was nice and the batter was pretty good too even after the 10 minute drive to get it all home. But I’ll knock off a few stars for the lack of EFTPOS or credit card facilities available which in 2014 is unacceptable for a business to not have this payment option available. The only reason a business like this chooses a cash only option is to under declare their takings and avoid paying tax. This sort of behaviour and attitude from retailers should be discouraged.Would have given them 5 stars if they allowed EFTPOS or credit.
