For entree we had the salt and pepper calamari which melted in the mouth. My partner had the steak and chips and I had the salmon, all was fantastic and cooked to perfection!!

The staff are very friendly and helpful. As you can see the sizes are huge and the food is good. We had the duck breast on the second night and it was good as well. Typical pub with jukebox in the corner. Good atmosphere everything you need from the local pub.

Last week, work sent me to Dongara, which is about a 4 hour drive away from Perth. I stayed at the Dongara Hotel which the locals had told me served really nice pub food, the best in town, so I was quite relieved. I dined here for dinner and for breakfast and was relatively happy. The place is super casual – you order and pay and the counter. When I ate there, the place was very quiet and there was plenty of seats to choose from. Although the staff were not rude, they weren’t very attentive when it came to asking how the meal was or checking if you wanted more water. But that’s a very small detail that I noticed. The dinner menu had a selection of Asian cuisine and your standard pub grub items. I chose the wild barramundi served with garlic prawns, scallops, chips and salad. The piece was fish was massive and the dish was drowned in sauce (I absolutely love sauce so I was very pleased with this! However I thought that the sauce was lacking in garlic flavour and was a bit creamy, almost cheesy?). It came with 3 pieces of prawns and 2 pieces of scallop. I thought the price was quite reasonable for the size of the meal. For dessert I ordered the chocolate mousse cake which was lovely and not too rich. The next day, I had breakfast here and ordered the smoked salmon and brie omelette. Again, the portion size was massive – the omelette was huge and was served with 2 thick slices of toast. Lovely flavours from the filling which consists of onion, tomatoes, capers, smoked salmon and brie. I personally thought that the filling was a tad bit too oily and so it was quite a heavy meal. Overall it was quite a decent experience and I would not hesitate coming back if I was in the area.
