There’s been a lot of change in Bunbury in recent times, which is not only great for visiting tourists but also for locals in this lovely coastal town, bringing more opportunities for a nice night out. Sala Wine Lounge, from the talented Jason Casella and team, delivers, with an intimate wine bar that is cosy and inviting. The first thing that catches my eye is the impressive, grand, wooden door and I instantly feel like this place has style and sophistication (I’m a sucker for a grand entry). Taking place in the old Hogs Breath building they have achieved great things with the refit, as from the inside it looks nothing like its former self. Exposed brick, pendant lights, timber flooring and some comfy couch seating. Sala feels upscale and somewhere you’d quite happily sit and indulge in delicious food and wine.
A cosy little lounge that attracts a large crowd on a Saturday night with an extensive wine list (and cocktails / spirits for those who aren’t so fond of wine) along with a selection of tapas style food.Cheapest bottle of wine will set you back around $40 but each selection seems to have a purpose on the menu and loads of variety to choose from including local and imported. Food was fresh and tasty, well presented and reasonably priced for the portions sizes. A twist on some regulars, like the lamb sliders or the waldorf scallops. Do yourself a favour and order the bacon and cheese balls (deep fried macaroni balls = drool)Service was attentive and speedy given the volume of patrons. There was a bit of confusion as a dish that wasn’t ordered was delivered to our table but was left with us complimentary after we alerted the staff. Only slight negative is the music volume – was a bit hard to hear within our group over the crowd and music, but this could be because of our location which was at the back of the lounge. All in all, would definitely return!
