First time at Lord Forrest and first time at Unwind. Perfect venue and great design for a small function and the food was great – nibbles and from the restaurant. Great for starting the night out 🙂
First things first, I booked a table for dinner for four by phone in advance. When two of us arrived, I told the waiter we had a booking. However, obviously he didn’t check and just guided us to a table for two only. I mentioned again I got a booking and we have 4pax, he felt nothing wrong and then bought us to another table of four. I reckon they didn’t take the booking seriously and just think that they will never full house in the weekday.Secondly, they have some daily specials posted on the website. Monday night should have $20 deal for burger + pint of beer. However, the menu got nothing about the special. When I checked with the same waiter he just said they don’t have daily special anymore.Thirdly, my wife ordered a crispy skin salmon for main. When the dish was served, the fish got no skin at all !! Asked the same waiter, he bought back the dish to the kitchen and said he will check with the chef. Then he came back and told us the chef said they didn’t have any fish with skin on that day, just ask us to order something else.Lastly, my ribs and chips got terrible chips and salad, not fresh at all.Overall, a terrible and disappointing meal, both food and service. This restaurant is in the Quality Lord Forrest Hotel but definitely not on par with the hotel quality and even some cafe just along the main street.
A relatively new restaurant in Bunbury. The food that comes out this kitchen seems to have a beautiful home cooked flavour to it. Complex dishes are made using simple flavours, which may or may not leave you wanting more flavour intensity. I ordered the Black Angus Beef Cheeks that came with a serving of potatoes and root vegetables. The beef cheeks were cooked to perfection; undoubtedly. The fat on the cheeks was so rendered down, so what was left on the meat, simply melted in your mouth. The beef was not over nor under cooked and would slide onto your fork, as you tugged pieces of it away. However, the gravy that accompanied this dish was lacking in intense flavour. It was quite bland. Seeing that the gravy is intended to tie the vegetables in the dish together with the beef cheeks, I recommend they work on improving the gravy. We also ordered the panko crumbed haloumi cheese, as a starter, but when the dish was served the haloumi was actually coated in breadcrumbs. I was more amused than fussed at this. I did enjoy my dining experience. The wait staff are skilled and friendly, and this compliments any dining experience.
Terrific experience. As a family we booked this with no expectations. At the end of our meal, we were all individually blown away by how good it all was. The presentation and quality of the food, the staff and the service they provided, are all as you would expect eating out in somewhere like Melbourne. Talk about a hidden gem!Top marks to the Chef and team in the kitchen, as well as to the wait staff who were all friendly and accommodating. 10/10.
