There was no queue when we arrived. I thought how lucky we were. When we walked in, the cafe did not look busy. There was no welcome greetings when we walked in. Service staff had their heads down totally preoccupied with whatever they were doing. I thought it must be a self service cafe. I was right. There was a little sign at the counter indicating take a menu, get a table and order st the counter. Service was not a priority. Even the lady behind the counter showed no warmth. We felt the chilly attitude. My waffles with chicken was ridiculously small for the price paid, two scrawny pieces of waffles with three tiny pieces of deep fried chicken! The turmeric chicken on my darlings nourish bowl was cold and rubbery. We wont be back!
Free parking, adequate service, cute interior, great food!We ordered the fried chicken burger and the beef brisket potato hashThe burger looked avg but tasted AMAZINGLoved the cute little frames and little details of the interiorThey had a good selection of cabinet foods too which is nice to seeChilled or sparkling water on tap was a nice touchWill definitely be back!
Mr Doe and I visited May Street Larder with Miss Six and friends for breakfast this weekend; it was somewhere Mr Doe has had his eye on for awhile but unfortunately it was a big let down.We ordered a breakfast bahn mi, poached eggs and bacon and a childrens scrambled eggs along with a number of hot and cold drinks. The bahn mi had to be returned to the kitchen as arrived on mouldy bread and the poached eggs were not good due to being tiny, over cooked and having a very strong taste of vinegar. The cost of the cold drinks was astronomical in comparison to the size of them ($8 for orange juice which was maybe 200ml if youre lucky served in a tall narrow jar). We were offered a free coffee in exchange for the mouldy bread which is not of much use after wed already paid for three hot drinks. Mr Doe said the coffee was good but unfortunately the English breakfast tea was bitter (unsure whether it was poor quality tea or if it had been steeped in water which was too hot). Service was average, value was not there and very much a case of style over substance in our experience. Disappointing.
