Our Christmas eve dinner was pretty disappointing. The selection from the deli station was pretty small and ordinary. The mains from the show kitchen were the best of it all. The desserts, last time a highlight, nothing to rave about. Unlikely to return.
We rocked up at 9:45 am on Sunday – the hostess seemed to be almost trying to dissuade us from entering, saying that breakfast was over at 10:30 am. Repeatedly. We get that, we’re hungry, we paid for it in our room tariff, so please just show us to our table, we’ll be done in 45 minutes. Sheesh. The breakfast choice was expansive and everyone enjoyed their breakfasts. At about 10:20 am the hostess reminded us it was getting close to closing time. Whatever. They’d already started packing stuff away before that anyway. We ran into this same woman at lunch the next day. Again, she tried to block us from entering because there was only 45 minutes left. We couldn’t help get the feeling that she wanted to have the place re-set by closing time, rather than patrons leaving by closing time and THEN doing the re-set. We thought, stuff it, and went to the conservatory instead. The food was good at the Cafe, but the hostess’s attitude could be better. The rest of the staff were obliging, as you’d hope they be when staying at a decent hotel anywhere in the world.
Very bad service, the waiter didn’t know what Perrier was and the empty glasses and dishes sat on the table for pretty much the entire meal. Food was ok but not worth the $80 a head. Won’t be going back
My wife and I had breakfast here after staying overnight at the hotel. The quality of the food was excellent and the service was very friendly. We both had an enjoyable experience.Highly recommended!
This place has always been a family tradition for us… but the last 5 Years has not been kind to this place.Im not sure where it all went wrong. For a place which prides itself on the freshness and quality, has become a home of overpriced foul tasting culinary spread. The deserts used to be the highlight; now they just seem bored and lifeless. Looks like the love is gone at Cafe…
Delicious hotel buffet breakfast 4.5/5OUR TAKEWe came here on Christmas Day for breakfast, so we are unsure if this is the normal buffet here, but it truly did go above and beyond our expectations. FOODBiggest range of breakfast foods you can imagine. Everything from pancakes and waffles, to fresh fruit, to pastries, to freshly cooked omelettes to your liking. All of the food was fresh and delicious. VIBEThey had decorated the restaurant to be Christmas-y, but regardless the space is lovely and clean, doesnt look run down or old like most hotel buffets do. Nice vibe. SERVICESuper friendly, staff seemed all happy to be there even on Christmas Day. The chefs were lovely and happy to make whatever was requested. CRITIQUESNothing at all. OVERALLOne of our favourite breakfast buffets we have been to. The food was all so fresh and delicious and so so so much to choose from.
Went for High Tea on a Sunday, 3pm. Was not too busy. I had called them earlier to check they had GF options, and was told just to let staff know when I got there. Was given a plate of sandwiches which looked like they had been made 2 days ago and frozen. The bread was like rubber so I sent it back. The chef came out with some mini rolls with 4 fillings on new GF bread they were trialling. Was much nicer though their fillings need to be of high tea quality, not thick sliced silverside. Other fillings where egg, salmon and cucumber and chicken and Mayo. Nothing fancy, special or memorable. There not much available in the hot buffet that was GF. Spicy meatballs with yoghurt, too big and really not a high tea choice. Small shots of pumpkin soup, again, is this of high tea quality? And mini tarts which I did not try. I did not bother with sweets, what others had on their plates looked nice but no one was raving about the food. And ice cream, again, how is a bowl of ice cream high tea? Customer service lacking too, they could not wait for the people there to leave and turned the lights out. There is no tea service, had to pour my own out of a metal pot. They also use the cafe for breakfast buffet, our table still had the breakfast condiments on there. I started feeling ill towards closing time, stomach cramps assoc with having gluten, and was ill the next day. How the Hyatt call what they served High Tea is beyond me. At@$60 per head, no way did anyone of us there get food or service to justify that amount.
