I concur with Tes Lui and the Fat Duck – their reviews are spot on with our experience and the photos depict what we received. What has happened? The earlier photos and reviews must be from a different chef. They need to go back and remind themselves what they used to do. The previous photos show a carrot dish that looks appealing presented with dressing and some crumbled feta. The dish we had looked like some gnarled fingers emerging from a grave. They were tender but disconcerting.
The wait staff were very nice. The starters were small, but artful. Tasted ok. Was very disappointed with the rest of the food and portion size. Took over 3 1/2hrs for an Express Dgustation. The smoked kailan was clearly a choisum. It was a main, but minuscule, dry, chewy and yellow as it was over cooked. Sorry, but cannot justify the good reviews I read about this place before booking it for a group of family & friends. We all left hungry and unfulfilled.
How do I rate this review? Googled the restaurant prior to attending, with a reference to fine dining… well it was far from that experience. No table cloth, no cutlery laid until I ask for some?In a table of 6 we chose the degustation option along with the wine pairing. That was our first mistake. We selected a pre-dinner wine, which was better than the wine pairing chosen.The ambience of the place was awkward along with corn on a cob, cold meats selection. The menu overall was underdone from the steak tartare as being lamb???? Like wtf? Chef tip, number 1, lamb is to fatty for a steak tartare option and this you could taste as an oily film through your mouth after? Overall it was pretty ordinary as a dining option, only good for a relation break up venue…..
Very good food, the 10 courses degustation is truly tasty, not just well presented, and it changes during the year. The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are full of flavour. When I was there few courses included native herbs/plants, which I found unusual and interesting. The ambient is not amazing, I would add some table cloths and would update the interior, to match the quality of the food and to complete the whole experience.
Some of the dishes were tasty. Enjoyed the crab with almond cream and salt bush, and the strawberries and cream dessert! Bread was a bit dense and tasted a bit cheap, and some of the other dishes could have used more seasoning. Rrstaurant fit out and decor is dated. Staff were reasonably friendly but could be a bit more onto it (we walked in and no one welcomed us, and it took a while for them to come over and take drink orders despite restaurant being quiet). We paid over $100 per person, so I would have liked restaurant to be nicer, and service to be more professional, and would have liked to be more wowed with the food.
A sad experience for a special birthday dinner. Grossly overpriced, poor wine list, wine by the glass was stale, imited food menu, fish and duck breast overcooked. Overall a very disappointing event.
My husband and I went here for his birthday and had a delicious express tasting menu. The food was creative, and the staff were attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend!
