After seeing this cafe selling strawberry watermelon cake from Instagram, we decided to come here for brunch. The chicken and hash was delicious but the bacon and egg chinese bun taste really average. I was disappointed with the strawberry watermelon cake. It look similar to the black star pastry version but not the taste. Service was friendly. Matcha latte was quite nice.
This is the second time that Perth has come up with our own version of Black Star Pastry’s #strawberrywatermelon cake (Food Foundry was super short-lived) and unfortunately once again, it’s a flop for me. Them claiming it’s the best version in Perth is a bit of a stretch, but could be true if it’s the only version. The ratio between biscuit and cream is a bit off, there needs to be more cream and biscuit layers are too dry and crumbly.Although the cake doesn’t impress me much, matcha latte is another story . The powder is of good quality and you can control the sweetness by adding sugar at the table to your liking. Their cheese watermelon and cheese strawberry drinks are quite average, they’re both watery and I’m not a fan of the cheese used. I also find the thick consistency odd and it is rather tasteless. Service is great though, I would come back to try other things on the menu. instagram.com
