Went here for afternoon tea at 4 last Thursday afternoon.My friend and I were the only people apart from staff in this small cafe, located a convenient 100m from my house. After a quick scan of the sweets, packed away in a cabinet already for the dinner service, I settled on a cappuccino and a melting moment, while my friend ordered a chocolate milkshake.First to arrive was the milkshake. The most striking thing about it was that it wasn’t served in one of this trendy but tiny mason jars, but rather one of the more old fashioned but bigger metal cups, which was a pleasant surprise. My friend said it was tasty, as far as milkshakes go, but nothing super special.Next was the coffee. It was actually hot (yay!), and was smooth and creamy, with the coffee less bitter than usual. Quite tasty!The melting moment, however, at $3, was a massive let down.Small and bland, the biscuit did not, in fact, melt, and had none of the buttery goodness melting moments should have. The filling was OK, but could’ve done with a twist, such as lemon zest.Overall, drinks were decent, and as I have had a very nice muffin before from here, I’ll be back to try again- just maybe will ignore the melting moments!
Gotta say that the food here is always good. Go for breakfast, huge portions that taste really good. It is good to see the owner out and about engaging with the customers, a huge difference from most other cafes. Some other reviewers seem to think this is a bad thing! I think the prices are pretty spot on in comparison to similar places as well. Enjoyable 🙂
Loved this place. The food was excellent and the service friendly. One of the few places on Perth that serves a good breakfast selection up to the afternoon. Will be back often.
Yes, J J Kings had big shoes to fill after taking over Donovan’s & to say they have succeeded would be an understatement. I have visited for both coffee & lunch which were of the highest quality (fresh, tasty & filling), & also attended one of J J’s famous wine-tasting evenings which was a real blast! I will be booking dinner there for a large group of us & if I am to believe what I have already been told it will be a huge success. Definitely worth a visit.
Average coffee and average meals, not as good as it’s predecessor, Donovan’s. Overpriced dinners. Don’t think I’ll be returning unless I’m desperate
visited this place , was disappointed again.. had French omelette for $20 with barely one cherry tomato, no feta no spinach as manu says.. w old rocket on the side splashed all in balsamic sauce.. Naked eggs were realy naked on huge plate with kale, few slices of avo one tomato and again floating in balsamic sauce.. coffe wasn’t bad but extremely hot, burned my tongue never bother again
Went there Saturday evening. First time since it was taken over. Nice vibe and food was great. The tasting plate was nice and we had 2 as an entree between 6 people. Everyone was pleased with mains. Only downside was service which wasn’t as attentive as it could be, but nice when served. Feel like we’ve got a good local here.
