I have a nice rib eye here. They cook to tender perfectly. Funny how served on a wooden board though especially with the sauce. Very well nicely cooked
I love the menu here! I love how you can choose your sides for your steak and we found it so accommodating for our group of friends as some of us we’re on diets and didn’t want to eat chips etc. I had the 180g eye fillet with mushrooms and charred asparagus and it was delightful. My partner loved his steak too with onion rings and sweet potato fries. We couldn’t be happier with our meals. The pepper sauce was amazing too. We will definitely be back. Please don’t change the menu!
Down the Hatch looks like your typical pub – comfortable and relaxed with some modern twists. However, we were really impressed with the food – definitely not typical in that respect. We had a number of plates from the tapas menu – pork belly and coconut prawns which were both generous, well designed and flavoursome dishes. The duck with couscous was unusual and delicate but very good, as was the salmon gravlax. Perhaps on the small side so not such good value. We finished our meal with the cheese board which was simple and a little unrefined, but generous. Overall, a pleasant, relaxed evening in a part of Perth we don’t usually visit.
Overall not a bad evening, table for two & was really looking forward to some delicous tapas up this way in Joondalup. Ambience from decor, lighting & music was on point. Staff were fabulous, friendly & not bothersome! Sadly the food wasn’t what we hoped, we had Bacon & Spring onion croquettes with aioli, coconut prawns with mango chutney & chicken & lamb sliders. Croquettes were ok but it tasted like fried mash potato with bits of bacon – quite bland, aioli sauce was the hero on that plate! Prawns were our least favourite, battered, fried & rolled in coconut again tasting quite bland. The mango chilli chutney on the plate once again stole the show! Chicken slider was dry & not appetizing. The lamb was much better but still needed more slaw or lettuce/spinach/cheese anything to cut through the meat (meat was very tender ). Well priced for a tapas bar but overall we felt the food was lacking some punch & flavouring compares to the tapas options Perth CBD & surrounding bars have at the moment. Other tables around us ordered main meals & they did look appealing so if we do go again that may be the way to go!
Had dinner with friends last night great ambience, Fantastic food (one of the best steaks I’ve had)and my wife had Barramundi perfect, Very friendly and helpful staff, Highly recommended.
Very disappointed,I had sirloin steak and fries but the steak was mounted on the fries to hide the burnt offering underneath.I did complain but nothing was done about it,maybe because we purchase via a scooping! Will not be going back or recommending it to friends and family.
Never knew this little bar / restaurant existed until I purchased a Scoopon. Went for Sunday lunch and enjoyed a traditional Roast dinner which was very tasty, but a quite expensive at $26! I’ve had just as good Sunday roasts at pubs for as little as $18. Most menu items were relatively within the ‘normal’ price range. The staff were attentive, polite & friendly. We enjoyed the laid-back music (especially for a Sunday arvo) and the decor was appealing. Inside, in the dining area, I wasn’t overly impressed with the ‘metal’ chairs. There’s plenty of bar stools & high tables which I don’t like (being rather short), so would only sit outside again. (Which was very pleasant). One downside is there’s only 1 ladies’ toilet, so on a very busy day / evening could be quite a wait to use the facilities. We will definitely visit this place again.
