This place is like a mini version of the other sugar and spice on Lakeside Drive. For me it is not as good, with less of a choice. The coffee is a bit average, and the staff need to smile once in a while
What a disappointment.. the service is shocking ..the wait staff seems so bothered.. even though they were not busy .. found a hair strand in the carrot cake and no apologies from them .. just a ohhh !!!not going back here .. too much flash and no substance.
As a fanatical cheesecake lover I am drawn towards this little centre mall cafe whenever I shop at Joondalup. Situated in the slightly quieter end of the mall, it’s a good pitstop to rest and enjoy very nice cake and coffee. However, there seems to be a few issues that makes this place only ‘good’ when it could easily be much better. The lack of any pricing displayed is a major concern, and often tables aren’t cleaned off promptly leaving customers sitting amongst piles of used crockery. On a few occasions I have had to personally move used cups and plates and wipe down my table with napkins to gain a spot in the small eating area. While the cakes are very nice, there is often a wait of 20 minutes or more for their delivery to the table. The cheesecakes are usually spot on, sometimes the base is very thick but still very enjoyable. The coffee and other drinks are usually well made. Could be a lot better.
This place has nice cakes but you need to ask how much each individual item costs because nothing is priced. I found the staff to be a little bothered also if you asked them questions
Had been craving their almond croissants but alas they have changed their formula doesn’t taste the same anymore… . The one I had a couple of years ago at the Cafe by the lake was much nicer and more almondy.
I had been wanting to try this place for a while, due to their attractive looking desserts. I could have waited longer. The lack of prices concerned me, and when it came to the savoury food, that concern was warranted. $8.90 for a Spinach & Feta Filo that was seriously lacking in Feta, and $12.90 for a BLT with too much mayo. The sweet food was more reasonably priced. I found the choc chip muffin rather bland, but my partner really liked it, as there were choc chips throughout, whereas many places just put them on top. The fudge cake square wasn’t very fudgy. The icing was nice, and had a bit of a mint taste to it. The pavlova was decent. The coffee was overpriced and didn’t taste great (my partner was very glad he didn’t go for the mug option).
The 5 Senses coffee is lovely, but expensive at $4.70. I agree with other reviewers – not having prices advertised is frustrating. I’d also like to see a pastry/coffee special. Jean Pierre Sancho (in the same shopping centre) offers more value.
