Friendly and prompt table service but food n drink was a bit disappointing today.Espresso mushrooms ($20 + $1 for gluten-free bread) sounded tempting but didn’t deliver in the end. No taste of the espresso that the mushies were supposed to be sauteed in… 3 slices of GF toast with one overcooked poached egg, minimal feta and an odd inclusion of walnuts made for a strange dish. Had my egg re-made and had to ask for butter which was served in a tiny dish enough for only one piece of toast max.Judging by the reviews here, overcooked poached eggs are an issue for Fez so make sure you request soft if that’s what you prefer (even though they’ll tell you that soft is the default). We also ordered the avo smash ($17 + $3 for poached egg + $1 for GF toast), again served with 3 pieces of toast. Chunky serve of avo was great but the dish may have worked better with roasted cherry tomatoes instead of fresh, especially on a winter’s morning.Hot chocolate was lovely. Cappucino was made well but weak which was likely due to the beans used but can’t be sure.Fez also had samples of their yummy GF brownie at the counter today which was a lovely touch while waiting to pay.All up, an expensive trip with no huge standouts. While 3 pieces of toast per dish is awesome value, one poached egg seems to be the norm here which goes against the grain of most cafe breakys and throws the dishes off balance. If they upped an egg and were a bit less stingy with the butter, I would consider a return visit but as it stands, there’s better value to be found in other cafes along the Walcott / Beaufort strip.
