OVERPRICED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. I recommend you ask the price before having a sandwich made here.I was charged $9.30 for a very basic Ham, Cheese and Tomato Sandwich on white bread, which is absolutely absorbent, and it wasn’t that special. It should cost no more than $6 in a shopping centre for something as basic as this.I am voting with my feet.
Great ingredients, great food. But rarely do you get what you have ordered. For the second time in two weeks (but it has happened on a number of occasions over the years), I have got back to my office with my sandwich in hand only to find out that of the 4 ingredients requested, only three of them are on the sandwich. And that is not through lack of repeating the ingredients. Today, while I was the only customer at the counter, I was asked 4 times, sorry what was on it again? AAAAHHHHHHHH……. Chicken Schnitzel, cheese, tomato and beetroot; nothing else. This week the sandwich was missing the tomato, last week it was missing the beetroot. Cleverly, the counter is setup so-as you cannot see your sandwich while it being made, otherwise I could of intervened. Come on Pumpernickels, this is your core business.
A healthier choice!. It was mid-afternoon, and hubby and I needed a bite of lunch in between errands. Not wanting any of the usual greasy-spoon food options you usually find in the food courts of shopping centres, I gravitated towards Pumpernickels for a healthier option. They offer a good selection of pre-set sandwich options, or you can design your own. They also offer fresh homemade soups in the winter months, which is what I had. I opted for the homemade pumpkin soup, which came with a fresh bread roll. Since it was cold out, I also chose a coffee. The soup that came out was thick, delightfully golden orange in colour, and came as a very generous portion. The only thing I’d quibble on with the food is it was a little under seasoned for my taste. The person serving offered salt and pepper shakers at the counter, but it wasn’t until I sat down and started to eat that I realised it really needed a touch more salt and pepper. The option of salt and pepper sachets would be better. The coffee was a very reasonable blend, not too strong and quite smooth. As far as the staff go, they seemed nice enough for the most part. The lady serving me was quite nice and asked me politely what options I wanted with my soup. However I was unimpressed when one of them mocked another customer in front of me as I waited for my meal. They are a cash-only store, and have a sign up on the back wall of the store clearly stating this. A woman came up and wanted to buy two cans of cool drink, wanting to pay by card after a staff member had got them out for her. When she couldn’t use the card she said not to worry about it and went on her way. The woman was barely out of earshot when the staff then laughed and said she should be ashamed of wanting to pay by card for just two cans of drink! Really? I’m sorry, but not everyone carries cash on them. Had I seen this before placing my order, I would have re-thought getting lunch here. That was just rude and not good customer service. Overall, tasty healthy food, but iffy customer service.
