This place use to be really good so not sure whether I came on a bad night or whether it’s just gone downhill. It was empty when we arrived yet it took about 25 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The food came out pretty quickly but was so bland and not enjoyable at all.
Tonight was our first time back at the Whale & Ale for several years and we were very impressed. Table service was quick and friendly with staff smiling and genuinely happy. I had the barramundi and it was divine!! Perfectly cooked and the vegetables accompanying were delicious. Good value for money and we’ll definitely be back!
Good food for a pub lunch/quick dinner! Big portions and friendly service when ordering at the bar. Never had a bad dish here! I’m impressed at the quality of the food!
Went for dinner on the 16/11/16 with my Missus and the kids and the fish that was served up was absolutely disgusting. 3 people tasted it and all said the same thing, that it was not fresh. The Whale and Ale has gotten worse over time and doesn’t seem to care.
Have been to Whale and Ale numerous times over the last year and have thoroughly enjoyed the food (especially the creme brle). However we have just been back since they have changed their menu and I have to say it was a disappointment. The food was a bit bland. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t bad but it was very much a situation of reading the menu think ooo that sounds nice and then when you taste it thinking it’s just missing the flavour and I wouldn’t order it again. Not only that but I seemed like all the food was prepared in advance and just warmed, which I’m sure it hasn’t as it took a while to come out. So overall I would describe the experience as disappointing. Bring back some of the old favourites like the creme brle and taste the food they make and step it up and I’ll be back.
Not enough staff rostered on. Chips were cold and soggy, turkish bread old and stale, fish extremely oily. Second rate food that seems to be cooked by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. Waste of my hard earned money!
I brought my mum here for dinner on Friday. I was absolutely mortified at the tiny portion of gnocchi they charge $28 for. My mum is not one to complain about meals but boy was she p*ssed. Even the staff agreed! When the waitress came to clear our plates we told her as much. She asked if we wanted to speak to the manager. I said no, you can pass the message on yourself. I would have expected the manager to come out and make some kind of comment but no sign of him/her. Neither of us have any intention of returning and risking more rip off portion sizes. Disgusted. And quite a pity as the dish was very tasty. Hence the 2 star rating, which is also for the lovely service at the bar when placing the food order. Will not be back.
