Been here a couple of times and have enjoyed it. Really cheap prices and authentic dishes. Have had the laksa and char kway teo. Have wanted the lo bak but they seem to always be sold out even less than an hour of opening for lunch. Service isnt great but the food speaks for itself. Good local place if you cant be bothered going all the way to Northbridge.
The place is not very busy and I have been waiting over half an hour for a plate of kway teow. I dont know what the cook is doing in the kitchen as it isnt even busy here.
The food here was disappointing. To understand why you will first need to understand the essence of a nasi lemak. The key components of this are coconut rice and a damn good sambal. Egg often features, as does cucumber, crispy anchovies and nuts. But the essence is a satisfyingly creamy coconut rice and sambal. So when I ordered nasi lemak at this purportedly Malaysian place I was devastated. Yellow rice? Pappadums? Neither ever feature in a nasi lemak, even amongst the numerous variations I’ve seen. Even worse still there was no sambal! That’s right. The essential component was missing, replaced by a weak sweet chilli sauce on anchovies. So this was an abject failure on both counts: rice and sambal.I am not against variations to recipes if they improve on the original. This was not one of those situations. This was a mediocre mixed rice dish being sold for $14 and called a nasi lemak. It was an insult to Malaysian food and points to a chef with a complete lack of understanding of Malaysian food.Needless to say I will not be back and I would not advise you to visit either. I would give this 1 star if not for the fact that the dish was edible.
