A really wonderful coffee shop with albeautiful cold brew, batch brew, and espresso all made with the balanced Nexus Blend. If black coffee is your thing then the single origins at Nexus are sure to impress- they’ve been carefully dialed-in to assure the most wonderful of flavours.

Stumbled upon this gem by pure chance and enjoyed not one but TWO fantastic cappuccinos. Coffee super smooth with a bold enough taste to not make it boring and best of all, the owner Lewis came out to have a brilliant chat to me about coffee, how he got into it, the selection process he goes through and really just a thoroughly enjoyable conversation and experience. Luis gave me a taste of their cold brew and I’m so sold. I’ll be definitely going back there. So in summary, a fantastic coffee spot serving top top notch coffee with incredible folks running the place!

What do Breaking Bads Walter White and Nexus Louis (pronounced Lewis) Lam have in common? Both feature a protagonist who is mild-mannered, fatherly, and whom possess a formidable knowledge of organic chemistry. Both chemists produce a product that will give the user a terrific, addictive high, however Louis has the added benefits of being non-lethal and is highly legal. Louis is as committed to caffeinous substances as White is to making money on the black market, however unlike the nefarious star, is committed to maintaining a local business that respects the privacy of its usersercustomers and does not force promotional offers or marketing so far down your throat as to be an effective enema. Louis love and passion for coffee, and his skills in bringing out the best in each blend (what the coffee world has gained in a patient genius the teaching world has lost a marvellous scholar) are matched by his focus on his customers, their feedback, and he is regularly improving how he runs his espresso bar to offer a better service for the caffeine addict. The coffee connoisseur, if they have not tired of Dome, Yahava, Muzz Buzz and other McDonaldsesque coffee franchises, is less of a connoisseur and more of a bottom feeding catfish. I prepare to cease friendships when a person close to me even suggests meeting at a local landmark like a DOME caf.Im reticent to put out too many signs, says Lam, a yellow halo of caffeinous goodness shining over this saints head, I want people to discover Nexus for themselves, and find out what we offer. Too many coffee stores become commercial and obsessed with marketing, and it cheapens the customers experience. As of writing this review, Nexus is a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop on the outside of the 2nd Ave IGA in Mt. Lawley. It has a few chairs and tables inside, and a small lounge area inside the storeroom for regulars, or the more dependent coffee user to chat about their addiction whilst they shoot up on espresso shots. Nexus house blend is a rich, never burnt, cocoa and dark-fruit flavoured brew. Louis only orders a small volume of coffee beans each week, to ensure the coffee he serves is always fresh. Coffee has a shelf life, after roasting, of about 21 days (even in a vacuum-sealed package. Think about that next time you buy a bag of beans with a best before date that is in the next decade!Nexus features cold brew, frappes, pour-over, decaf, and a small selection of simple, well-selected cakes and meals that complement your coffee tasting. The food selection is likely to stay as a simple adjunct to the coffee service. If I get a kitchen, Ill lose my focus on producing excellent coffee, and really, thats what I want Nexus to be all about.Louis is preparing for summer when he hopes to change things up a bit from what people expect from a coffee store.Weve put a lot of work into keeping things interesting and appealing this winter, and it would be a shame to lose our customers when the weather heats up. People just dont like drinking hot coffee on a hot day (personally I think thats weird, but Ive come to rely on the caffeine molecule more than I do that of oxygen) so we have a range of cool coffee drinks. These are espresso tonics, frappes, iced coffees, chilled milk coffees, and later, in the evenings, hopefully even a number of coffee liqueurs. Maybe you should get a small number of shirts or keep-cups made up with the Nexus logo. I suggestedYeah, Ive been thinking about that, but I dont want to slap people in the face with marketing. Too many coffee shops sell out, with promotional merchandise, shirts, cups, aprons, placemats, and a huge range of their own signature blends.I like to try different blends, I dont care what it says on the package, I need to try it for myself and see if its something I like and would be happy serving to my regulars. So when you visit Nexus, you wont have the pleasure of smearing your eyes with salacious descriptions of the different coffees on offer, unlike franchises with fine art student authored descriptions of their beans like:A silken chocolate finish with resplendent moon beams on an aftertaste, that remind you of the time you brought that little puppy home in the rain when you were sevenBrusque, macho, with a kick like a mechanical mule receiving electroconvulsive shock therapyA flavour so potent that after one sip even your neighbours grandmother will go weak at the knees. The consequence of Louis integrity, in choosing not to jackhammer his product into the heads of his customers, is that it is easy to miss when you are driving or walking through Mt. Lawley. I wrote this review to promote Nexus in a way that Louis himself cant. Were he to do so, his actions would be as disastrous as if Bruce Wayne finally executed his nemesis, The Joker. How could we trust Batman to do the right thing and not succumb to his absolute power? Once Louis begins acting like a marketing mogul, what will happen to Nexus? In closing, Louis handpicks his staff with the same care and attention he does his beans and coffee roasters. So dedicated are these specialised individuals that they dedicate themselves to learning the best preparation methods for each of the different beans they may be featuring on a given week. This meticulous attitude may mean it takes a little longer for your coffee to be served, as the staff may choose to remake the beverage until they get it perfect however it does eliminate one of the more embarrassing situations every coffee addict has had to suffer through: that of recommending a favourite coffee store to a friend and have them try it and have received a coffee that tasted like a similarly coloured solid excreted by most mammals. So, next time youre in Mt. Lawley, give Nexus a shot. Or a double shot. And try the Kenyan pour-over. A coffee blend originally milked from the tear ducts of Norse Gods, its a sensational brew.

Great coffee! Love going there to get my coffee. Menu isn’t huge, but totally acceptable for a takeaway coffee hatch! I’m not sure if they do coffee orders, but if they added the text option like some coffee places have it might work well.
