We rocked up to the Melbourne on the Saturday night of its soft opening at 9pm and headed to the rooftop bar to be told that they had stopped service. We headed back on a Friday afternoon and managed to snag the last indoor table as all the outdoor tables were already taken at 3pm! Love the retro vibe and relaxed feel. When summer comes round, it will be difficult to get a spot gauging how popular it already is with the number of mining and legal peeps lounging in the bar lol.Giuseppe the barman was a hoot! After I ordered my usual cocktail – a Long Island Iced tea and requested lime juice instead of lemon, he told me to trust him with the making of the drink. Outcome: pleasant and a bit too sweet. He used blanco spirits (white rum is a must) although I would have preferred equal measures of each spirit. The second drink was much better with less lime juice and sugar syrup. Poor lad was horrified when I asked for a bit more coke, made me chuckle when he declared, A Long Island Iced tea is meant to look like tea. A very charming and cheeky Italian – definitely will be a hit with the ladies lol.For those who love espresso martinis, the salted caramel version is crazy good. The croquettes and chicken tulips were tasty and a hit with the crew.Apologies for lack of pics, forgot to charge the phone overnight before heading out at 8am. Yes that day was 14 hours of pure indulgence.
