TRACEY recommended me to buy my lunch – she said that their banh mi is really really good. And so I went. And so I agreed. Staffs are friendly and the meal is prepared super quick as they only need to assemble. Ordered the pork banh mi. Taste not too bad, love the ingredient and the sweet sauce they use. The pork meat is a bit hard and lack the juiciness of a freah meat. Price is average, portion is barely enough for one serving. Nonetheless I still enjoy the lunch and would want a second!
I lived in Sydney for a few years when bahn mi was everywhere, cheap, and incredible. Now its cool in Perth. City Provisions is one of my favorite places for bahn mi, not Sydney level, but not a rip off either. I’ve never had any of the fried or hot food here, but the sandwiches are always fresh.
I’ve been on a bit of a banh mi journey so I had read that City Provisions offer a really good banh mi so popped by. Place an order and it’s prepared in a jiffy. The bun is quite crunchy and flaky but soft and is well filled with tasty ingredients. I like the sweet and sour dressing which moistens the carrots, cucumber and coriander. The chilli stays in the background but really builds and has quite a hum. The meats are a little disappointing being deli meats rather than the real thing. If they swap this out with real meat it will be so much better. Tasty meal though. perthfoodreviews.com
A five star Bahn Mi with a price and taste that knocks Subway out of the ballpark. Get in early as the line gets big around 11:45. Load up on the chilli, grab a sesame ball for the wait for the Red CAT, head back to the office and fight off the intrigued hoards all trying to get a look in on lunchtime heaven. Service is always good, food is always great. Hard to beat for a quick work lunch in the city.
Cheapest muffins I’ve ever seen I reckon! And they have bite size ones too which is a fantastic option, if you don’t want to pay $4-$5 for a muffin the size of a baby’s head! Lots of unhealthy fried options as well as sandwiches and very reasonably priced rice paper rolls. Major downside of the place is the repulsive dirty oil smell as you walk past, makes me dry retch. I’ve had the rice paper rolls and the bacon and egg sandwich. Good cheap option to have but I won’t be back. Would rather pay a little more for a tastier option. And to avoid that rancid smell.
Had the banh mi thit ($7.50) and banh mi with crispy roast pork ($8.50). Served at room temperature with good lashings of cucumber, pickled carrot/daikon, coriander and meat, a soft-ish baguette with a good crust, a smooth smear of mayo.. these were delicious!!!
The first banh mi I ever had came from City Provisions several years ago and I remember being blown away by the flavour. I returned recently after a four year hiatus (and many banh mi from many other places). It was going to be a big ask for them to live up to my somewhat rose coloured (or coriander coloured?) memories but they did a pretty good job. Lovely crispy roll, tasty fillings. My favourites are still those from the suburbs but this is a good lunchtime fix!
