Ive been going to Embargo over the past three years, each time in different spots. Best spot so far is Vic Park, as it doesnt attract too many stragglers and has a nice local feel. The food options are simple and the free local music is a nice touch. Drinking out of plastic is not the best but the overall picnic vibe makes it work.
Embargo has now camped at Vic Park’s Macallum Park and on this balmy Wednesday evening we went there for dinner and drinks. The atmosphere and surroundings are excellent but the drinks are a little pricey at $10 for a can of Balter or Matso’s Beer and $8.50 for a thimble sized glass of pinot grigio. The food is either from a fish and chips van or pizza and i decided on the brisket burger with slaw and chips for $18. It was a moderate crowd so the 20 min wait seemed a longer than expected. Would hate to see it on a busy night. The burger was quite small but above average in flavour and my partners fish and chips were good at $15. All in all it was a pleasant evening in an undeniably great spot, however the value for money just isn’t there for me to return.
