Was such a privilege to have dinner at the Garum Voyager Estate collaboration. Greeted with smiles from everyone. Canapes and champagne to start. Absolutely love the cheese arancinis! Everything we had paired well with the wines and they were very accomodating to my food requirements. Love the freshly baked bread they served as appetiser! Definitely coming back for their regular menu!
I expect so much from Garum, after reading about it in the Qantas magazine and hearing everyone talk about this new restaurant like it is the new prince of the Perth food scene. Certainly the crowd on the Wednesday night seemed robust and excited enough. The menu looks promising and a fairly healthy wine list to much. I ordered the Crudo, it is a tuna beetroot and some lemony compote and sorrel. Cannot taste the tuna for the life of me as it was completely overwhelmed by all the other flavours. What a waste. Next up was the vongole pasta, which I thought at $28 an absolute steal in a place like this. But I have never seen small clams in my life. They might actually be frozen as there was zero flavour. The pasta was clearly handmade and cooked very well but essentially I felt like I was eating pasta with garlic and parsley, which for $28 is an absolute ripper off.Despite all that, It was still lovely evening, and although the food did not hitting the high note, it was good enough. Perhaps it was made buoyant by the crowd – I would come back and eat here again – If i was staying at the Westin, which by the way is an excellent hotel even though the concierge has no idea. But that is for another forum.
Beautiful venue and food.We went on a Sunday night to celebrate our anniversary and staff had kindly written a card for us and was on the table. The complimentary bread was sooo good we bought a loaf and took it home. We had the vongole pasta and the pork ragu and both were delicious. The deserts was also a winner – the panacotta and italian doughnuts.Would definitely recommend it.
didn’t really like it to be honest, overall experience was alright. for the prices we were paying it wasn’t great. did quite enjoy the bread and the pasta, service was good too but after that the rest of the evening was kind of…underwhelming. the prices for the main dishes were insanely high, the portions however minuscule, dessert was nothing to rave about either. to sum it up, i’ve had much much better italian, for much much less.
I had not heard great things about Garum.Slow service, average food and an air of superiority had been conveyed to me when I told people Id booked.I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the setting is beautiful, the food shows some good skill, but the service lacked initiative. For example, 4 slices of bread for three people. Or not advising us there are two zucchini flowers when 3 of us are sharing. We also fell into the age old trap of asking for a couple more minutes to select our meal… and then struggling to get a waiter for a further ten minutes. But the reason for our delay is that the menu selection is actually very good. A little bit of culinary knowledge is required to decipher the menu, but the waitress was knowledgeable enough to anticipate and answer our queries.Good wine list too, although I thought it more cutesy than original to order in according to colour (there is a reason its collectively referred to red vs white wine).Definitely a good corporate lunch venue.
