Set centrally in James Street, Northbridge the bar and restaurant are part of the Doubletree by Hilton complex –with the airy and open bar at the front facing the passing traffic of James Street and the restaurant behind a dividing wall. With a voucher in hand we dropped in during the week to try some of the restaurant dishes – we have had many a drink in the front bar and were keen to try the dishes in the dining room (I had been before just as it was opening late last year to sample some of the kitchen’s wares and was impressed at the time).
Had pre show food and drinks here. Very prompt and friendly service. We were shown to our seats and menu presented to us. Not long after our food and drinks orders were taken. We had the Spicy Chorizo, chickpea, tomato fondue; Pan tossed baby octopus with lemon and garlic; Roasted pumpkin and rocket salad; Duck fat potatoes; and Pita and dips (hummus, beetroot and baba ghanoush). We really enjoyed the duck fat potatoes as it wasn’t too oily and was just right. The Pumpkin and rocket salad was not too bad also. Simple and refreshing dish. The spicy chorizo wasn’t spicy to me but love the tomato and chickpeas in the dish. The pita bread and dips were pretty good. We enjoyed the hummus dip and the beetroot dip. The eggplant dip (baba ghanoush) was only ok (i’ve had better). We enjoyed the small dishes and quick service here. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.
