Was excited to try this new dumpling shop opened by Authentic Bite Dumplings, expecting same high quality dumplings. Braised Beef Noodle Soup was good, daughter ate 2 small bowls of. Xiao Long Bao was great, thin skin, generous fillings. Steamed Dumpling was alright. In-laws liked their Pork Spare Ribs Claypot Rice, they said its pretty good for Perth standard. Two dishes kinda let us down. Pan Fried Dumpling skin was too thick. And the Sour & Spicy Wonton didnt have peanut garnish like Aunthentic Bite Dumplings do, hence lacking crunchy texture. Service was ok, efficient.
Want some dumpling action but Authentic Bites is too busy? Head over to Juicy Bao Bao on William St where Good Fortune used to be ! Run by the same owner, Juicy Bao Bao’s menu is slightly smaller, with a few different items but same old emphasis on good dumplings. You’ll have to pay for hot tea here though , which makes the stingy Asian in me cringe a little.I haven’t had sheng jian bao in Perth that are comparable to the ones I had in China but things have changed, these are delicious ! The skin is just thick enough not to burst when fried but not doughy that would be heavy in your stomach. Dumplings are fried till crispy, golden brown and the soup inside is worth burning your tongue for!Although under the same boss, their xiao long bao unfortunately aren’t as delicate as the ones from Authentic Bites . The skin here is slightly thicker, with filling a bit denser and saltier. We aren’t fans of the soup that prawn and chicken wonton swim in either. Wonton themselves are nice, just the soup is bland and fishy from all the seaweed. Steamed pork and leek dumplings are great though, but you know what’s even greater? Chilli oil ! I swear it’s one of the best chilli oils I’ve ever had. The colour is bright red and it is super spicy! I hope it stays that way forever because it is so hard to find a chilli oil at such calibre. Body and personality, that’s rarity. instagram.com
