May have overdone it on the egg….. Oceans is always a good bowl of Ramen. Consistent with good prices. Not my favourite Ramen but never a disappointment. They also have excellent branding including the printed nori.
Came here a few months back and always wanted to give a good review to this place. The chef is actually Japanese, but the real gold-star quality was demonstrated when my husband and I visited and we discovered halfway through lunch that the man had prepared an entire restaurant’s worth of meals without a microwave. (Not that I know what he uses a microwave for, but everyone was running around desperately trying to get a microwave into the kitchen before 1pm that day! We had no idea that the microwave was necessary until the assistant chef came running up the street with the microwave in the box). The ramen this chef makes is unique, with a definite gingery taste to it. It’s not like any other ramen I’ve had before. The restaurant also does great Takoyaki, and other tasty entrees, while providing excellent quality service. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is because I’m fussy and felt that the ginger-based broth tasted too ginger-y, and there are not many options to choose from that DON’T contain that ginger flavour. It still tasted delicious, but it’s not my ultimate favourite for a regular meal. I know quite a few family members who simply ADORE ginger, so this place is always my first recommendation. (I also loved that they decorated the strips of Nori with the store logo. How innovative!)
Authentic Ramen and Katsu. Packed with flavor, quick and friendly service, hits the spot without any fanfare. Light on the palette and pocket. These are what rainy ds are made for.Coming back for more!!
these guys do a miso or soy broth, rather than the tonkatsu one. the aburi (flamed) cha shu was nice, but other than that the miso broth was pretty average. adding the garlic condiment made it a bit better, but otherwise ive had better depth of flavour at other places. the serving size is smaller than other ramen places like Keisuke and Hakata Gensuke, but its also cheaper. the ramen noodles are the curly type which i didnt like, but thats just personal preference. dont think well be back as id rather a bit more at the other places for a fuller-tasting broth. service was not as friendly as other japanese-run establishments, but it was fine.
