Took my family of 5, 2 children 3 adults to Simple last night on their recommendation. Unfortunately the usual chef was having a break and the experience was far from enjoyable. Started well…. ambience was lovely, staff welcoming… entrees OK. We were first customers so there was no pressure on chef. Kids shared lasagne which they enjoyed but the other mains were not good. My daughter- in -law’s pasta with seafood was OK except for the seafood. The mussels hadn’t been cooked fresh…still were cold from fridge, very dry and the prawns rubbery. My lamb was tough, tasteless and anaemic….with little sauce/ broth to moisten it and the broccoli, frankly laughable. My son said his barramundi was like nothing he’d ever tasted before…rubbery and tasteless. The waitress took the mussels back to the kitchen to be reheated. The grand-kids were getting a little anxious about the experience so we played it down. The bill came to $178 and on paying this told the waitress of our experience. She asked if I would like to request discount from chef. In retrospect I should have pursued that but didn’t want a fuss with my children and grandchildren. So today rang and spoke to owner cos my anger had escalated. Usual justifications and an offer of discount or bottle of wine on our return. I won’t be going back. $178 a lot of money for a bad experience!
