Found in the China town side of Northbridge, taking up a scoopon, my partner and I ventured out to Szechwan Zen Chinese – our first experiences of Szechwan… and I was ill prepared for the level of heat here, it blew my head off! That’s the reason for my low score. However this place is constantly packed and it’s pretty huge, so if you can handle the heat, by all means go along. I will need to do some serious chili training before I would be prepared to eat Szechwan again.
I ordered the sizzling beef teppanyaki and it came out real hot! We got a little bit of oil splashed up on us and we weren’t close so be careful! Also had the garlic veg, delicious! Will be back to eat again.
Authentic Sichuan cuisine with bold flavours, particularly the pungency and spiciness. Dishes are usually cooked in a lot of oil. But because we can’t eat too spicy food, we opted for the non chilli dishes. Sweet and sour fish, sizzling beef tenderloin, garlic spinach and salted egg yolk prawns. All the dishes was very tasty except the sweet and sour fish. It tasted quite bland, not sweet or sour either. Dishes are quite pricey but servings are big.
