Moody dimmly lit this is the epitome of a jazz club. We went along to a comedic rendition of rewritten Sinatra tunes for the Fringe. The tables are close together the crowding adding to the atmosphere. Small drinks list…we had a pleasant ros from Cirillo in the Barossa…toffee and spice aroma with a crisp finish…food is comfort style…pizzas nachos and the like. But the music is the thing. Ellingtons is unlike anywhere else in Perth. If you love jazz it is the place to be. perthcafeculture.com.au

Worst nighjt of my life. It was my birthday tonight. My husband is a jazz fan as am l . I suggested Ellingtons as l have never been there a party of 20 of my friends and family rocked up for my birthday and entry was paid for 8. One of our party was refused entry as they were considered inebriated. This probably appears a fair call for a venue which appears to want to maintain standards. However our friend was not falling over or out of order at that stage. My bone of contention is the security would not allow me access to fetch the 8 members already granted access to tell them we were going to another venue. Nor would security agree to reimburse funds paid 5 mins earlier so as family and friends could remian together. subsequently the party got split into 2 venues. I have never been treated so rudely and felt dealt with so unfairly and insensitively in all my life. Whatever the cost of entry for half the party l would have gladly kissed it off never to have any family or friends frequent this establishment again. I am writing this review upon my return home at 2 am in the evening as l feel so incensed and have never been so disappointed with an establishment – security in particular in all my life. Whats more ; l feel particularly bad as my daughter organised this and spent more than $500 on the night and l alone had spent a considerable amount also for a night and a party which got divided due to the inflexibility of the staff at Ellingotns. They would neither reimburse nor allow entry form me to tell the others to leave. It is a birthday l will never forget thanks to Ellingtons and l was neither drunk nor rude. . Never have l been treated in such a high handed way which demonstrated flagrant arrogant, dismissiveness by their frightful front security staff. Moreover l consider not allowing me to inform the rest of the party to gain entry and offer them refunds shows the calibre and callousness in attitude of a pompous non thinking establishment This venue is best avoided lest it leads to the ultimate in regret and outrage on a point of principal. I resent that they received some of our party’s money and believe they did so under false pretences.

Great night’s entertainment. Good easy eating tappas, with great flavours, wonderful Jazz. Just what expected! If you like Jazz, give it a go, or you won’t but that’s up to you. We loved it.

Pleasant evening. Firstly, you don’t come here unless there is a performer you want to see. So that should help to start things off positively. As we had booked as a couple, we got placed on a tale with another couple. This turned out to be a very positive social experience, but obviously you have to take your chance. As we arrived early, the staff were fairly attentive but I notice this tailed off as the seats filled up and they got busier. Interesting wine list, moderately expensive, but overall we considered it value for money, particularly as the cost for the performance was exceptionally reasonable. Don’t expect to come here for a gourmet meal – pizzas and tapas is all you have the choice of. These are reasonably presented and tasty, but not outstanding. On the basis of the first visit, I will come here for the performers, not the cuisine, but I will probably be happy for the food and wine accompaniment.

I like the Ellington and occasionally go there for the jazz. The drinks are very, very pricey though, so we never have more than 1. The food, well, I’d go somewhere else. There isn’t much to choose from and the prices are almost ridiculous. So unless you enjoy jazz or is going to the venue to watch a band perform, I wouldn’t really bother.
