We have had two great experiences at Palmer, while not quite as fine dining as say Vasse Felix, the quality of the food is comparable to any restaurant in the south west. It’s a stunning setup also, on a sunny day the deck and grass area is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon! The famous Balinese half duck is worth the reputation, huge serving and delicious, as is basically every dish we have tried. The wines are also outstanding. Highly recommended!

If you want a relaxed dining experience with good, tasty food that is not over-engineered then palmers is the go in this part of the world. We went to celebrate my birthday and on arrival my partner and I both received a complimentary glass of bubbles – how lovely! A simple touch makes such a difference. We were quickly brought out the complimentary appetiser – a slither of wagyu on crostini with a spicy chutney and aioli – delish! Set the scene very well. We were impressed to see that family tables received the appetisers for all members, not just those with the debit cards. We had two starters and two mains but asked for them one at a time and shared each dish. It worked really well, like a private degustation. The duck terrine and parfait with quince chutney and pickled Shallot was gorgeous, a lovely balance of richness, sharpness and a touch of sweet.Next was the popcorn prawns with a fennel slaw. Cooked perfectly the prawns had crunch and flavour. The popcorn coating was a surprise and a welcome one.The cone bay barra served with superbly cooked green veggies, crab smashed potato and a beurre Blanc sauce. Wonderful crisp skin – could not fault the dish. Finally we had the signature Balinese duck. I would say this was confit cooked in sou vide then coated in a wonderful spice paste and roasted to crisp. Served with rice and a light yellow coconut milk curry the dish was full of flavour but completely without chilli heat. I wouldn’t have minded some heat but the dish didn’t need it and is a wonderful option for those that like spice but not chilli.I’d hope to try dessert but we were all done after that. The staff were terrific, maybe a touch more eager to get us through our dishes than I would have preferred and the gardens are not finished to their potential but really, Palmers is a gem that I have no hesitation in recommending!
