Tonight was proof that sometimes the best things are found off the beaten track and as such – worth a detour.I jumped at the opportunity this afternoon when I received a message at 3:45 stating that visitors had only just left the house and Should we go out?My mind – tired of the standard fare within 3km of our house, decided to think farther afield. In this instance all the way to South Guildford.I had seen a friend mention the Plum Valley Malaysian Restaurant a couple of months ago. It was intercepted by my Foodar and stored away for an appropriate time. Given we are schooling in the area, and may eventually live around there. It seemed that sooner or later I would be in luck and get my wish. The restaurant is part of the Waterhall Shopping Centre in South Guildford. Normally suburbia is populated by suburban Chinese and Suburban Italian. As well as the standard kebab, pizza and fast food premises. So its nice to find a place specialising in a new cuisine. And I might add – not a hybrid of Malaysian and Chinese either.Tuesday night is not the main night for socialising – so I will forgive the beautifully appointed restaurant for being quiet. Our family of four was there with just one other table. We ordered a selection of traditional Malay dishes chosen so we could benchmark them against other dishes tried elsewhere.Beef RendangNonya Chicken CurryChar Kuey Teow Jasmine riceCoconut riceThe food came out quickly. Good serves and very stylishly plated. Very soon we were all tucking in. The Beef Rendang (I might add – my favourite curry), was sublime. Perfectly cooked and tender. It wasnt as incendiary as I have had it before. But I saw this as a great opportunity to let my youngest try. She can build on the heat as she grows older.Nonya Chicken Curry – wow! Beautifully balanced and deliciously spiced. I loved that the restaurant uses boneless chicken thigh cutlets. Less fuss and youre not wasting time picking the meat off. I do concede though that meat off the bone is the way to go. We enjoyed convenience in this case. The Char Kuey Teow was smokey and fresh from the wok. Once again perfectly balanced and with plentiful amounts of prawns and my favourite – the sliced fish balls. The service was fantastic. Our waitress was a Scottish/Australian Girl. Gave us some good tips for the next time we come. Im definitely going to try the Vegemite Chicken. Heading back there for sure!
I tried Plum Valley for the first time this week and I was not disappointed! They have $10 lunch specials which includes soup of the day, main and steamed rice. The soup of the day was chicken and cor…n soup and it was delicious. Not too thick or sweet, it was perfect. I had the beef and black bean sauce for lunch and it was so tasty! Not oily at all, generous with its meat/ vegetable ratio. Will definitely be telling people about it and coming again.
Great value and choice with their new $10 lunch specials. And I have to say, best Asian food around Guildford! Support local business – somewhere decent to eat for lunch without breaking the bank and taking out a small loan, finally! Fantastic service. Super clean, modern atmosphere. Have been telling colleagues and will be back for sure. Thank you.
Tried plum valley for lunch one day. Fantastic food and great service. The Nasi Lemak is brilliant – as good as any you get in Malaysia. Will definitely be going back for dinner soon!
Wanted to try new place for dinner so we tried plum valley and not disappointed. We never had Malaysian food before but we love every dishes we had. Were recommended their signature dish, beef rendang and nasi lemak. They are simply WOW!! presentation were beautiful and packed with flavour. And as always, we still have some room for dessert so we tried sticky date pudding. Good choice we made, its so moist with nice sauce. We love it!! Thank you guys
Sensational beef rendang with roti. Huge portion for 23 bucks, I reckon at least half a kilo of meat on the plate, it really is suitable to share, especially with rice as well. Can’t fault the Nasi Goreng either. Service was very quick, that’s a bonus with kids.
Staff are friendly and the meals are superb. Cant go past the $10 lunch specials. Dine in for best value! Been there many times as a local and never disappointed.
