Visited to buy fish and chips after a nice afternoon surf catting on the Swan River. There was only one guy serving, cooking and answering the phone. Halfway through cooking our food, another guy arrived from out the front of the store holding a glass of wine. He proceeded behind the counter and started serving customers. Looked like he was the owner or manager. With glass of wine in hand he arrogantly continued to take orders. As he was wrapping our fish and chips he kept licking his fingers to separate the paper wrapping. Disgusting! He we then rude and obnoxious when I asked him to confirm what was in each package. Food was ordinary at best and service was non existent and rude. Stay clear of this place. Surprised they are still in business! Don’t waste your money….you’re just a customer, an inconvenience and an irritation! Arrogant twat!
Disappointed. We have regularly used Mermaids for our fish & chip fix, but have found the last couple of visits disappointing to say the least. On the last visit, we ordered a double fish & chips and a separate barramundi. When we opened the paper at home, the barramundi was distinguishable by the fact that it was so ridiculously overcooked, the batter was a very dark orange and the fish inside was so dry that it was inedible…even our dog turned his nose up at it. The other two fish were cooked relatively well but the chips were undercooked.We’ll be checking out other fish & chips options in the future we think.
Happy Camper. After recently moving to South Perth, we have been to Mermaids twice in the last fortnight. The lemon pepper grilled fish is really nice, and chips were good too. It was nice and hot too, so we will definitely be back..
Great food & service. We had a lovely dine in meal of fish, chips and salad for our family of four . Well priced, clean, happy venue and the food was served up on nice crockery with lots of smiles. A pleasant night out, with well cooked and drained fish & chips, fresh, tasty salad. Look forward to a return visit .
Very disappointed. After purchasing fish and chips from here before I was disappointed by the service my friends and I were provided. We called ahead to place our order and was told to ‘hold the line’. After eight minutes of holding the line we walked in to the shop still ‘holding the line’ and politely told the worker our situation. Our response was that it was the new guys fault and we were not given an apology whatsoever. We were informed we would be noticed when the fish and chips were ready to be picked up and after twenty minutes we returned to be told that they forgot to notify us our order was ready. Disappointed to be treated like this.
Look elsewhere. Fish was average – not great, but not bad. They had a good variety to choose from. But the chips were just awful. Oily and limp. Calamari equally uninspiring. I won’t be back. This was attempt #1 in my search for quality, sensibly priced fish & chips in the South Perth area, and it was a failure. The search continues.
