Bought the wonton soup – takeaway, very disappointed. The soup tasted as if it had a kilo of chicken stock. Won’t be buying again! Plus it was very overpriced for the serving I received.

Eh is all I can say. Had their Peking chicken with rice, the food tasted like it was made the night before or something. I got a lunch special so it was about $13 but it was not worth it.

So so average. You know those nights on a work trip with a mountain of work to be done at the hotel you drive around looking for something decent. Kal had many options and though not visible from the street it is easily missed. The decor reminded me of those Hong Kong restaurants you find in the city. The meals on offer would see Gordan Ramsay rave about too big a menu but this is Chinese. Priced at about $18 a dish it’s not cheap. I ordered the Mongolian lamb with steamed rice no joke it took 8 minutes before it was ready. Advantages of a take out mid week! But the lamb was that common flat beef looking protein of many Asian food hall stalls. Seriously? Noodles were 30% of the dish, and those onions, baby corn, zucchini and other veggie fillers soon had me angry. $18 I wouldn’t expect so much filling. I got the feeling that it was a premade job and they just add the sauce, hence the fast turnaround. Without the sauce it wouldn’t have been tasty at all. Spring rolls were great but 4 for $7 I’d expect that. However they were greasy and came with a aromatic thick sweet sauce. The sauce just killed the genuine flavour of the spring roll, so skip the dipping. So an average meal no different from other mainstream Hong Kong style take aways. But with prices creaping round $20 a dish I’d suggest you look elsewhere, your not missing out much if you miss this place.
