After ordering pizza most fridays my family and I figured it was time to go for chinese again. After picking up and ordering out there was a fly wing in my won ton soup. We called and they only offered us a free won ton next time we order. no thanks, we spent 60 bucks and had the won ton for free anyways as their pick up special. The rest of the food was put into the compost bin. Never ever order from this place. They also don’t have any inspections done on the alberta food inspection agency so they were notified as well. Going to bet the kitchen is not very clean at all.
Terrible. I’ll never order from here again. The egg rolls could fill a 2 litre with grease and the sweet and sour ribs must have been cat ribs cuz they some funky
This is most likely the worst example of Chinese food that we have ever had. Salt and pepper squid was so tough it was inedible. Sliced chicken with Black bean and garlic – They forgot the garlic, and all you could taste was a very sharp, sour flavour that was terrible. Spring rolls were edible, but grease was dripping from them. Cantonese Chow Mein was mostly flavourless.I do not recommend this to anyone that enjoys good food.
Happy Mouth :). I have to say – I love this place. I have to say Silver Star is leaps and bounds above the stuff you can get in Calgary, and I’ve never been disappointed when I’ve ordered or taken out from there. Service is always friendly, and when I say no mushrooms (allergy) they are always very good about not getting me sick 😉
I Give a Yes and a No. I have gone to this place many times simply because they are only restaurant that I have seen that has chicken soo guy in their buffet…(a regular thing in Montreal buffets). Their egg foo young will put other restaurants to shame. As such, the food is great..only problem is STOP people from going back up with their dirty dishes..this is like a regular thing in Alberta…and #2 – too bad a bar is attached to the restaurant as the last time I was there – a very inebriated individual was having the buffet..his hands nor his nails had not been washed in a very very long time, stumbled up to the buffet for like the 3rd time..he actually grabbed a few egg rolls with his bare hands and slapped them on his dirty dish….I immediately stopped eating and paid my bill and left…haven’t returned.
Very low quality food. Very bad Chinese food. Sweet and sour sauce looks and tastes like it was bought at Walmart. Chow mein tastes like Itchiban. Noodles and all meat was dry. I thought I had bad chinese food before, but nothing like this.
Take-Out not Buffet. My family has lived in Airdrie since 1987 and we LOVE Silver Star. Growing up it was consistently our Friday night take-out choice. To this day, whenever we have guests from out of town we order from here. I’ve had family fly back to London, Manchester, Atlanta, NYC and even Kenya with frozen Ginger Beef and Shanghi noodles! I’ve lived out east for over 7 years but whenever I’d come home I’d order some ginger beef, the Young Chow fried rice and the spare ribs. I recently moved back to Airdrie and stopped in for the buffet, for old times sake (a high school tradition with my crew) and needless to say, it left much to be desired. It was busy and clearly the people there were regulars, but the buffet is not a good representations of this restaurant’s quality or ability. I highly recommend ordering take-out and enjoying a great meal. The restaurant is old and out-dated and does need renos and I’m sure most of the revenue comes from take-outs, so there isn’t much incentive to change the buffet. Stick with take-out and you won’t be disappointed. And now, I’m going to place my first take-out order since being back home, because when it’s -30 outside, you need good food to keep you inspired! 🙂
