I quite enjoyed lunch here today. I had a mixed tempura, which was very nice. Very large and tasty mushrooms, excellent jams that were much larger than expected, perfectly done squid and large shrimp. The lady had the Yam Yam sushi, which she really enjoyed. I had a taste too, and it was very good. Service was excellent, in the Japanese style. Everything was right. There’s no doubt we will be back. Parking: 4/5. Service: 5/5. Presentation: 4/5. Good food, great service! We ordered something we didn’t like and the chef took it off the bill. It’s a fairly small place and can get a bit noisy, but overall a good spot.
I walk past the Kabuku downtown on a daily basis but I have never been in. Recently a friend told me that they have one in the SW and I should try it. Last night we went to our normal sushi restaurant only to find that the line was out the door. As I was starving, I decided that it would be a great time to try Kabuku. I am so glad we did as it might be our new favourite. The restaurant took over from Social and they completely transformed the look. It is inviting and bright and clean. You are greeted by all staff when you walk in and we were seated right away in these super comfy white chairs. The service was friendly, attentive and fast! Everyone helped out to make it a great experience. We ordered miso soup first and I was a bit put off by the $4.50 price tag until it arrived. It was a larger portion than most and probably the best miso soup I have ever had. It even had mushrooms! For sushi we ordered creamy scallop nigiri, avocado nigiri, the kamikaze roll and the volcano roll (I read a previous review saying to try that one). The avocado was so fresh that it melted in your mouth. The scallops weren’t overly mayonnaised or fishy at all and tasted fresh out of the water. The kamikaze roll had a great crunch to it and the sashimi on top was delightful. The volcano roll was my favourite as the sauce was spiced and creamy. The tempura’d calamari mixed with the fatty tuna was killer.Though a bit pricier than most, it was worth the money. Satisfying and fresh, it was like good Vancouver sushi in Calgary! momnomnomsblog.wordpress.com
I just went for the first time. I was hesitant because people were saying it was expensive for what you get. When I went I got the miso soup, salmon sashimi (not smoked), and the volcano roll. The miso was great, a bit bigger than other places. They incorporated some different types of mushrooms in it. Was an interesting combo and it worked well! The salmon sashimi was good, a bit small for what I was paying for it relative to other sushi places. That would be my only recommendation to them is, more sashimi. The volcano roll was a pleasant surprise. I got it for sake of comparison to other places (you can guess which one…) and like the miso soup was something that I did not expect. It seemed like their own version of it (tweaking the ingredients and such) and it works quite well. The 10 pieces was very filling. All in all I am happy I tried it, the food was great and the service was stellar. My server explained everything with the different menus in a concise way and was very polite. I will for sure be returning soon!In regards to other reviews on here, I am not sure what it was like before I went today but it seems like the experiences 8+ months ago were quite different to what I experienced today. The menu explained everything in the rolls, the food was great as well as the service.
I am surprised by some of the negative review. I found the food very good and good service as well. Love the rolls.
Disappointing.. I was really excited when this opened beside my house, but was greatly disappointed. After browsing the internet i realized that this place is related to the previous Zen downtown that just go renamed. You can get away with poor sushi quality downtown at lunch because people need to eat. But to serve this stuff out here…
Stay Away if you’re a Foodie!. The quality is terrible and the portion size for Sashimi was a quarter of what other Sushi Restaurants serve. I don’t mind expensive Sushi if it’s fresh and portion sizes were at least half decent but a quarter the size of normal Sushi???
