It started off really good and it ended well, but the main course was terrible.I ordered the smoked trout which was well presented and very tasty. I also ordered steak as mains and a Black Forest cake as dessert. The steak was a sirloin or what ever it is called here. It was not properly prepared with a tough sinew on one side of the steak and a hunk of fat and the accompanying sinew surrounding the other side. I ordered it med. rare, but it was more like med. well done. But the worth thing was, it was pale on both sides, it didnt look grilled. Either the grill was not hot enough, or it was cooked in a pan and this one was not hot enough either. My wife had the same complaint. When the server picked up the plate he must have seen the uneaten mount of grizzle and fat, but no question was asked. Our friends who dined with us had a schnitzel, which had dark grey meat and it looked like it had been fried in water, the crumbs were not crisp and very pale. The plate looked a proper mess. The dessert was nice, but it was bought in, so not much chop there either.A thoroughly bad experience and the four of us were not the only ones, we met some other people on our walk at lake Louise and they thought it was a total waste of time and money. If you are at the Fairmont Banff Spring avoid the WALDHAUS at all cost.
