I love their steak sauce. Omg. You have to put it in your rice. So addicting. The food is pretty good, but the main reason I come here is for the steak sauce. Damn, so good. A bonus that I get green tea ice cream after dinner too (it comes with the meal). YUM.
One of my favorite restaurants in Calgary. I have been going to Japanese Village for the past 20 years, and have never had a bad experience. Things to keep in mind: – Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time (good chance you may even get seated earlier). This assures that the table can be set up/show can start on time. People who don’t show up on time will lose their seat.- If you want to walk in (as opposed to making a reservation) there is a chance you might be able to get a seat of people who are late/no-show, otherwise there is a dining room where your food is brought to you (cooked in the kitchen). Just as delicious.-This is a highly popular restaurant, meaning a LOT of business comes in every day. They have limited tables/seats and cooks – therefore they need to keep on schedule. To help not feel so rushed, I recommend eating each course as its served.- Don’t be afraid to ask for soya sauce, more rice, extra sauces (eg. the steak sauce on the rice is a MUST!).- If you’re craving Japanese Village but short on time, try their lunch option. You will get a lunch menu (instead of steak, you can choose the teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, choice of soup or salad and veggies and rice. There is NO entertainment over the lunch period due to customers having shorter lunch schedules (also an option to eat in the dining room at normal tables, lunch cooked in kitchen and brought to you) Enjoy all!!
I went here with my husband in search for a teppanyaki place now that our sakana grill downtown closed… we didnt make a reservation but there was space in the overflow area. The overflow area is nothing special however the food was fantastic!! We will definitely come back and highly recommend booking a reservation to be sure to get to the main area by a cooking table.
