Worst Goat Curry Ever – $12.50. This place caters to the Canadian palette and culture, as they are unable discern authenticity.Steer clear if you have some level of understanding of true Caribbean food.On a side note, found a piece of steel wool in my food.
I just finished eating here and it was great. I had the jerk chicken with the rice with beans (she said it was cooked in coconut milk as well), mixed vegetables, and the dumplings (basically corn fritters). The dumplings were sweet, soft, and dense in a good way and when eaten with a bit of everything else it married well. You had the sweetness from the dumpling, spice from the chicken, sourness and more heat from the hot sauce which I requested, and the vegetables were simple but well seasoned and supple. All in all, the meal felt balanced enough to me which is important in my opinion. The younger lady at the front was so incredibly friendly as well and answered all of my questions patiently. That alone is what would make me want to come back (which I will be) but throw in the great atmosphere due to it being small but with many windows allowing natural light in and great music playing and you’ve got a great little place I’d definitely recommend. 🙂
I ordered jerk chicken and the food was a bit cold, wouldn’t recommend this place.
Nice Surprise. A little slice of the Caribbean in Beverly, on the far east end of 118 Ave. The ambiance is so-so, you order (from a large board) at the counter, pay up and then take your seat. Service is fast and friendly, the ladies are happy to answer questions from newbies (like me).Food is fresh, tasty and comes in large portions. You choose the meat (jerk pork, jerk chicken…. it’s all good) and 2 sides (rice with peas, coleslaw, steamed veggies or dumplings)- ‘small’ is enough for most regular appetites! They also have snacks like Jamaican patties, fried fish, fried dumplings and a host of Caribbean-style sodas and juices. On a recent visit, the place was crowded with a mostly Caribbean clientele suggesting ‘authentic’ flavours. Highly recommended for both the food and a ‘unique’ (for E-town at least)experience! PS- Beverly is actually solidly blue-collar, quite a distance away from the really rough parts (70- and 60- something blocks) of 118 Ave.
This is not authentic Jamaican jerk chicken it is some dry roasted chicken , I am not a fan of this place and they have the worst hours anyway so half the time you want to go in just for a pattie cause its all i recommend , they are closed anyway !!!!!
Delicious!. The food here is fantastic. I had the jerk chicken and my husband ate the ox tail. Would definitely go back. Too bad they’ve got such odd hours.
Went back and it was open! And I am so happy it was. Best jerk chicken I have had in a long time. Well spiced and huge portions. And the people who run the place are so lovely. Anytime I want Jamaican food in Edmonton, I’ll be sure to visit these guys!28 Aug, 2013I’d love to write a review for this place but it’s closed every time I go there…
