Best secret of Diamond Valley, we have tried everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The spring rolls as an appy are our favorite, Roasted vege salad to die for and the pizza they recently added to the menu is the best in Black Diamond!
Very disappointed – We were recommended this place as we are from Montreal. We decided to split the large poutine and the Montreal smoke meat sandwich. The poutine’s gravy was way too salty and there was too much of it. The fries were on the limp side and became more so as they were drenched in the gravy. The cheese curds were squeaky as they should be so that was the only good thing. However, as the gravy and fries were not hot enough, the curds did not melt. La Belle Patate in Canmore is much more authentic and tasty. The Montreal smoke meat on rye was a joke. It was Lester’s vacuum packed smoked meat served on what looked like a modified white bread as apposed to genuine rye. You can buy that vacuum packed Lester’s meat at the grocery store. The authentic Lester’s smoke meat that they show on the picture on the table is hand cut from a full piece of smoked brisket. Places in Calgary, such as Grumman’s, that sell Montreal smoke meat hand cut it. A heated up vacuum packed bag is not comparable.
We really wanted to like this place but it fell short in a few ways. We ordered a Fanta and a Coke Zero….my partner was asked if he wanted can or bottle and he said, bottle if they have zero in a bottle otherwise can. He got a bottle of Diet Coke. I asked a few questions about the menu, and most we found out throughout our meal, were answered incorrectly. Not a huge deal, but could be an issue for someone with strong preferences or allergies. I got the turkey pot pie combo which came with a good sized pie slice, (a little too much crust with not a ton of filling but still yum), a great Caesar salad as well as fries and gravy. Partner got the tourtire with same ‘combo’ sides. He really enjoyed the sides but said the tourtire was likely the most bland he’s ever had. Overall, ok, but maybe a few recipe tweaks and some menu training would help.
Great small town bistro. Quite busy, which is a good sign. Very tasty food – freshly made, and good portion sizes.Poutine and French onion soup, croques were awesome.
Great food. A small restaurant run by a Quebecois. Excellent French onion soup, poutine with real curds. I like their beef donair and the smoked meat sandwich tastes like Swartz’s in Montreal. I would highly recommend it.
NOT the best poutine in town!. This place was good when it first opened but has gone downhill ever since. When they opened they boasted about the best poutine in town so hubby and I ordered a bacon poutine and it was good. Crumbly fresh bacon bits perfect amount of cheese and gravy. Ordered it the other day and got slop. The bacon was whole, undercooked and floppy, I had to dig for my French fries underneath a disgusting soup of bland gravy and a large amount of barely melted cheese curds. I won’t be eating here again.
