I hadn’t been to Golden Rice Bowl in years, and when my friends and I were trying to figure out a place to get Dim Sum at I was excited they had chosen it so I could get a chance to try it again. A Saturday visit to it around 1pm was pretty good overall. Our table of 7 were seated and the restaurant itself was only around 3/4 full, leaving plenty of spaces for everyone.Food carts were around pretty quickly. We got our food and overall, I found the food to be pretty good. Like nothing special or note-worthy, but solid dimsum food. Service was a mixed bag. Some were abrupt and cold, but others were friendly and chatty. I’ve heard that many previous servers from a few years ago went to other dim sum places – not sure if it’s for the better or the worse. I don’t think we ever got any refill on tea or asked if we wanted something else to drink, however.All in all, this place was a good dimsum place. From other reviews, I noticed that the service and food tends to be hit and miss at this place. I guess today must have been a hit for me. I might stop by from time to time based on this experience. All in all, recommended.
We never trust those consumer awards. Our place mat was super busy with horoscope. .. old articles and ads boasting won consumer awards 2014 15 and 2016. The stand up menu has dish prices that are slashed to 12.95 from 17 or 18. The dishes are certainly overpriced. We found the dim sum to be below average and service either silent or surly and disgruntled . The shrimp pan cake looked fresh but had a faint smell if bleach. It was very wierd. On the upside bathrooms are updated and they have change table. Hope someone anyone can recommend a great dim sum place because it’s not this one.
I am writing review for an old visit. The recent reviews for this place is quite bad but I didn’t realize any of these in my visit, may be because I was a foreigner. Anyways I will write my experience for that 1 visit couple of years back while staying at U Alberta for 3 months. I actually liked the food very much here. We were about 20 people and ordered over 30 different item. I loved the food as it tasted very different from the Chinese food we get in all high end Chinese restaurant or small Chinese food stall in India. The food was also significantly different from majority of Asian food place Europe. I don’t remember most of the food now but the crispy Peking duck with thin pancake was simply great and the crab dish and entire fish cooked in broth was also quite good. The portion size were big too. The ambience was average. I hope they overcome the recent downhill they are facing and buckle up soon.
Very expensive, food was just ok. I ordered a wor wonton that had no beef in it, and very little shrimps. Pork was used instead of all beef.
Prior to moving to Edmonton, this was my go to place for dim sum over the past4 years. I just moved here and went for dim sum recently. I was sadly disappointed by the quality of the food. It has definitely suffered over the past year, will need to find a new dim sum place.
The restaurant was Shut down 3 days ago due to serious health issue by Alberta Health Services. A long history of this restaurant with health issue.
Used to enjoy this place. Came here the other day and they tried to pass off pork as lamb.. Quite disappointed at the service and quality of food. Will not come here ever again.
