Overall, not a bad Dim Sum Chinese restaurant and they are usually packed. Last time when I went, the service was friendly but the food was slow to come out.
Afternoon dim sum brings less crowds and you can order off the menu vs waiting for the cart to come around. Prices seems to have gone up since the last time we visited this place but still reasonable if you order with your head and not your stomachs. Full variety of dim sum menu items and the ability to order off the menu at the same time. Clean tables, bathroom so so…weekends this place gets extremely busy but they seem to turn over tables fairly quick. Just don’t let the older grandmas and grandpas push their way in front of you.
This review is a little different than most of what you’ll likely see.To be objective, there aren’t really any great Chinese places in Edmonton. That does not mean the restaurants cannot make great food. Sadly, Edmonton is generally speaking, one of those markets where upscale Chinese cuisine cannot survive. Thus, welcome to the endless places that survive off regular staples such as Dim Sum.My perspective of this place, and some other Chinese restaurants as well, is that you get what you pay for. There are some fancy dishes that can be had if you knew what to order; however, know that the prices you’re paying are going to be expensive (think to the tune of of your fine dining establishments and above). The other thing to note is the ingredients are not usually stocked in advance (since there is generally no market for expensive Chinese dishes). If you’re ready for some spending and don’t mind some discussion, I would suggest having a nice sit down with the staff there (when it’s not busy) to plan out some extravagant meal. Either your or them can get fresh ingredients from afar (e.g. king crab) to be prepared in delicious ways.Payment: Visa, debit, cashParking: Ample parking spaceWorst time to go: Lunch on a weekend. All the families go for dum sum at the same time!Noise: Extremely lively when busy Food quality: Generally good if you’re not looking for the exotic stuff. Have a sit down discussion if you want something nicer and are willing to pay lots.Value: Great if you’re just having dim sum. Everything else is more expensive, though there are some very good dishesKid friendliness: Lots of high chairs and booster seats. Washrooms gave change tables (not super high quality but at least there is one, even in the male washroom). No kids menu. The kids will like watching the live fish tanks.Bathroom cleanliness: Soap and paper is stocked properly. Generally clean, but not spic and span.Restaurant size: Massive. Good for banquets.Must have: Nicey cooked high quality seafood (e.g. sea bass)
I would not recommend this restaurant. A warning here – Check your bill when you pay! They overcharged us $100! Luckily we caught the mistake and their excuse was that the lady needed eyeglasses! They did not offer any discount etc. for the mistake. We were seated way in a back corner away from the main restaurant. Definitely got a feeling they only appreciate Asian customers. I did not enjoy the food. When we got home I felt sick to my stomace and vomited twice . My husband also had an upset stomach but did not get sick.
I have been to this place for many times, I actually like the food here but not anymore. Last time I went with a group of 8 peoples, and ordered 10 peoples meal combo. We paid for 10 peoples meal combo price but the portion of the food came out with 8 peoples only. 8 of us don’t eat a lot, but ridiculously we emptied almost all of the dish with no leftover( everyone only get 1-2 small bites only)Last weekend I went again with a group of 5 peoples, none of us were hungry, but we still ordered 6 peoples meal combo and two extra dishes, same thing happened. It’s ok to adjust the size of the dish but when I pay for 6 peoples meal, I do expect the food would have enough to feed 6 peoples, especially we were only 5 peoples and we still had no leftover. Will never go back again and don’t recommend anyone to go.
**** Found out where people are eating cantonese dinners these days.. its not century dynasty…. Beijing was hopping on cny eve. We had the cold platter….not the standard items… things that were wierd were the soy sauce soaked turnip. Didnt like the veggie wrapped on tofu…The lobster dish was good except theres missing meat. The fry chicken was over fried.. Fried spare ribs with a wierd strawberry sauce…. is it watered down jam??? The dishes came out too quickly they kept moving the dishes to smaller plates as if to hurry us out. Then nothing… huge delay on fried rice and noodles. The dessert was watery bean soup. It was ok but the dishes were not impressive. Not the same as the good old days where you roll out of there after 10 dish course meal with left overs. Dishes were significantly smaller. If we dividing per person… it came out about 44 pp before tax and tip.. Not a good value. Very little meat..Upon speaking with payer… it seems they switched set menus. Noticeably dishes were swapped with alternative ingredients… not for the better. Best to find the set menu is and have a copy of it. Service seemed little bit better than average asian place..Strangely we had our dirty dishes changed 3 times. Is that supposed to be good service? Bring back the bountiful good tasting dishes. You can only fool someone once.******. standard dim sum only because we scrutized each dish to see if it was fresh enough. Some dishes refried and some like the sui mai were indistinguishable. Same not much service attitude. It was like eating in a large storage closet since they have chairs piled up. Inventory all around. It’s buyer beware dim sum
Beijing Dim Sum is a perfect place to fulfill your dim sum cravings They have a good sized dim sum menu. If the carts rotating through the restaurant do not have what you want, management is quick to request from the kitchen The only downside I find is that you do not have a consistent server – so you’re asked the same question a few times which can be confusing if you’ve placed a special order I’m looking forward to trying their dinner menu soon !
