As an old fan of Lukes I was very apprehensive to find they no longer carried the coffee they previously had, Stumptown, as it has consistently been my favourite brand across the northern hemisphere. Unfortunately four barrels does not match up to the quality level but is still fairly good, with excellent baristas and a awesome setting. Still enjoy coming here.
You would never guess this little coffee bar is inside Luke’s Drug Mart if you didn’t know to look for it. Luke’s has certainly changed since I used to live in Bridgeland almost 10 years ago. It now sells groceries, to natural/organic products and houses Four Barrel Coffee Bar. I enjoyed my medium iced latte, it was $4, so pretty standard for ‘hipster coffee’ as my brother in law would say. I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to try it, but if you’re around, drop in, grab a coffee and check out Lukes.
[Review for this coffee bar when it was Stumptown]Amazing (!) Coffee!. Before going to this location to try the espresso they pour, I had bought some Stumptown beans from the Luke’s in Killarney (the Holler Mountain blend to be exact). I was so impressed by the flavour of the stuff I had brewed at home that I was excited to try what these folks would offer in a bar setup like Bridgeland. Wasn’t disappointed, although the setup wasn’t at all as I’d have expected. They use the Hair Bender espresso, as I understand, which is quite good. The barista staff made an excellent americano for me as I sat at the bar awaiting a friend. There are about four or five seats along the window. It seems that most folks take their coffee to go here. But aside from the regular drugstore stuff, if you do need a distraction this Luke’s has a record section, nicely stocked magazine shelf, as well as a nice array of frozen and fresh groceries. Sip your joe with or without a pupose, or take it away.
