We were here about a week ago, we have a dinner group and enjoy trying different restaurants. I don’t normally write reviews but I’m going to start especially because when you have a large group you are forced to preorder your selections from a special group menu. Our night started off great, the manager came to our table and greeted us and was very pleasant. We had a 6 course meal planned and the first 3 courses were delicious. The calamari was the best I have ever had. It went downhill from there, our salad was bland and then came a plate of two different pastas that were just clumped on a plate. The main dish is where it all fell apart! I ordered the signature dish (chicken in a mushroom sauce) so did a few others. I took one bite and left the rest, to start the veggies where literally ice cold and my chicken was tasteless to say the least. My friend asked if they could microwave it to heat it up. The so called tenderloin was not, it looked and taste like a sirloin at best. My other friend ordered the salmon and it was the only dish that came out cooked to perfection! A preordered menu selection should not come as a surprise to the kitchen. One star for the calamari and one for the salmon. Hopefully they can turn the ship around for 30 years of great food and service deserves 30 more.
I have been here a few times over the years and its always been good, it has a very warm feel to it and the decor is like an Italian home, the food the last time was only fair and it has seem to go down hill over the last couple of years not the same as it used to be.
Great ambience; phenomenal food and great service from friendly staff. The calamari is a must try!!! I will return here again and again….
It is a nice little restaurant with cozy setting. Calamari was to die for, pasta portion was huge, but everything seemed overcooked and salty. I always find Italian cuisine too salty though Should’ve told the server beforehand. Service was friendly but need more work on delicacy.
Had dinner with a group of friends, 9/10 people from our table disliked the food. They had no taste at all. When asked by the server how was the food, I said there’s not much taste to it, and the pasta was hard. Then the server told us they want to be sodium cautious and customers can add salt to their like. Totally disappointed with our experiences. Had to pay 18% gratuity for crappy pricy food, waste of time and money. Was not fond with the servers response as well. Avoid this place.
Oh god. If you look at most of the positive reviews within the last two years, the accounts that post them have ONE REVIEW ONLY, which can only mean one thing… that the reviews are not genuine and that this restaurant’s rating is EXTREMELY INFLATED.I chose this place for a Christmas dinner with friends and we got a server that was new… usually it’s not that big of a deal, but he couldn’t remember who ordered what food for entrees which was slightly off putting. Why wouldn’t you give a large party an experienced server if you’re going to charge 18% gratuity? The food LOOKED good, but was extremely underwhelming. We mentioned that our chicken was flavorless to a lady that asked how our night was going (not sure if she was the owner) and she just told us to add table salt to it. What kind of response is that?Avoid like the plague.
Skip this one. Very bad experience.I do not like to give bad reviews. I would rather chalk it up a bad single event, forget it and move on. This restaurant was different. The owners reaction and lack of concern brings me to share our very bad experience. If you need some credibility, check out my profile and other reviews. When we booked our 28th wedding anniversary dinner online we noted in writing that there was a gluten allergy not a lifestyle preference, a bonafided allergy. When we were seated by the waiter, we also informed him and he said there were lots of options excellent. As we were served our water and selected a wine, we noticed that there was just the one waiter for the entire restaurant its a small converted older house, but thats about 15-20 tables. We ordered GF calamari to start and veal parmigiana for myself (not GF) and chicken pescatore for my wife (GF). The calamari in marinara sauce was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed it. As the waiter brought the calamari, he asked if I would like some bread to go with it (I am not gluten free) and I said I would love some. Thats when thing started to go bad. My bread didnt show up until well after we had finished the calamari. He never once came to top up our wine, nor was anymore water every brought for the rest of our meal. When the meals were delivered, he briskly left and my wife noticed she had been served veal pescatore, not chicken so was the pasta really GF? I began to eat and my veal was awful. Tough, chewy, and tasted like it had been boiled hard like a severely overcooked cheap gristly minute steak. The side pasta was penne in marinara sauce 7 single pieces of penne. I thought perhaps Chef was being artsy with the serving sizes but as I looked around, most plates were brimming with the side pasta. I guess that Chef (starting to wonder if there is one in the kitchen) ran out of penne. Wow. They pride themselves on grandma secret recipes from the homeland, but I think the chef stayed home that night. As I was finishing my meal, my wife decided to eat her meal as the waiter was no where to be found. Eventually he came by as she was finishing and ask how it was. He was told her chicken was veal. He offered to replace it, but you know how that goes by the time that replacement meal comes everyone else is ready for desert – its just awkward and undesirable. Besides, she had decided to try and enjoy the veal, however it didnt appear to be eatable thin very tough, difficult to cut with a knife like veal jerky. She pushed the veal aside and ate the GF pasta and the seafood bits. Since we had told the waiter to skip the replacement, shortly the owner came over with offerings of appeasement to my wife tiramisu and liqueur on the house. So knowing she had a gluten allergy she was offered gluten laced tiramisu and gluten based liqueur how uncaring. The owner did not apologies, but rather offered the excuse that they only were expecting 13 and received 38. Do I care? Should my meal suffer due to their lack of managing? We asked for the bill and was given it, paid and left. Nothing more said from the owner. No offer to repair a very bad anniversary dinner. In Calgary right now there are several excellent restaurants that have gone under due to the economic hardship of patrons unemployed by the downturn in the oil business. How does La Brezza deliver such poor service and food and yet continue to be highly rated? If this was a onetime problem, then the owner should have fixed it but she didnt care because her restaurant was full and business is good. Why do we let historical excellence carry them through when far better restaurants cannot pull in the patrons? Is the measure of a good restaurant how many superstars have visited and posted photos on the walls? My suggestion if you want a good Italian meal go elsewhere.
